    Just looking for some advice?

I would like to start cycling to work, from Castleknoch (ish) to Drumcondra Road. I was thinking of using the Canal and would love feedback on this route? Does anyone know at what point the path starts, and before the path is it possible to cycle on the canal? I should specify for an average cyclist lol

I've cycled in from Clonsilla station using the towpath - only really hassle I remember is the gates designed to stop motorbikes/scramblers but it's rideable all the way to town and downhill slightly in that direction.

There's a lot of gates along the canal that you'll have to get off and lift the bike. Also a lot of the route is a bit rough, so it will require a hybrid at least, not really suitable for a road bike.

It's a frustrating cycle really along the canal, all the stop start.
