tbh, there's not much difference between brands except taste and price.
with ON gold standard you're paying for a brand name.
here's an example of how much cheaper other brands can be http://ie.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protein/10530943.html
and I'd read the ingredients of any protein bar carefully, most are loaded with sugar, with Quest bars being a possible exception.

I use quest bars, as far as protein bars go they seem to the best in terms on ingredients. Their taste and texture is totally different from any other protein bar, pretty nice once you get used to them.

Make your own, theres loads of videos on youtube and they work out much much cheaper than buying ones made by companies

has anyone succeeded in making a low carb/low fat one? AM struggling to get them to stay together as the mixture is too dry and adding water just makes them soggy.

Not good at writing recipes but this might be handy :)

    What you will need:

    Oats
    4 eggs
    Vanilla whey powder
    banana
    Coconut flakes
    almonds
    baking tray
    baking paper
    Blender

1)Put one cup oats in blender and blend to make powder
2)Transfer the oats powder in a big bowl.
    3) Put 4-5 scoops of whey protein powder( i like vanilla)
    4) sprinkle almond flakes( you can add few raisins too if you like)
    5) Mix it
    6) Now put 4 egg whites
    7)mix it
    8) put one mashed banana
    9)mix it
    10) the mixture should not be too dry or too watery. if too dry add a bit of low fat milk or if too watery, extra oat powder can be mixed.
11)preheat the oven at 170 degrees for 10 minutes.
12)place mixture in baking tray.Make sure you have baking paper on the tray.
    13) level mixture using a table knife
    14) leave mixture in oven for 15-17 minutes.
    15) put the toothpick or knife in the middle of mixture after 15 minutes to see if the knife comes out dry, its done or leave for another 5 minutes.
    16) once done , let it cool and cut into pieces the way you like :)

    Enjoy!! :)

No probs. It wont be the same as you buy in shops but its cost effective and you will like the taste of it. once you try this i am sure you will be able to experiment like making choc ones etc
