Question about modems and routers

This may seem like an odd question but is it possible to disable the router aspect of a modem router?

I have just my computer and nothing else that connects to the internet so I don't really need the router function and since I have a UPC box that doesn't seem to work properly with port forwarding (at least not properly) and I need to be able to connect to Maptool servers but currently I can't because of the port forwarding is crap and of course, because UPC use a modified connection type using an F-connector jack, the same you'd see coming from a satellite connection, I think it's called a mocha interface so it's literally impossible to replace it, I need help!

Looks like my replies got deleted during the maintenance window earlier. Basically you can to set up a DMZ on your router, which will expose your pc to the internet. You should think about aspects of your firewall on your pc before doing this. Basically its configured to expose a certain ip address to the internet.
