Just wondering when do you see a movie? Do you go the weekend of its release or wait a few weeks?

Opening weekend if possible. If not, definitely by the second weekend, 'cos otherwise I have to much to catch up on by the time the next batch of new releases appear. Sometimes, if something has slipped through the net, I'll play catch-up (e.g., a few months ago, I didn't see In A World until it had left the Lighthouse and was down to minimal screenings in the IFI), but I generally find that if I don't see something early on, I'm likely to miss it completely.

Mostly, the Monday or Tuesday afterwards if I'm going to go see it in the cinema.

When I did go to the cinema I used to wait a good few weeks. That way there would be a small crowd (or nobody apart from myself) at the screening and there would be no distractions.

I've never once gone to the cinema at night time as I have a feeling the amount of talking from other would drive me nuts.

The selection in the cinema in Tullamore is poor and they only seem to show the massive blockbuster films and so I haven't been to the cinema since Skyfall was released, even though there are a number of films i would have liked to have seen.I now just wait until a film comes out on DVD and buy the DVD.

Depends.. it's a tough one to call!

I typically won't go the night of release but normally in the first week or two if I really want to see it.

The risk of waiting too long is that you seeing it relegated to a smaller screen. For example, I left seeing 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' until tonight (going after 9pm) but am going to the 3D screening.. not my first choice but the 2D version has been relegated to a smaller screen in my local cinema in the last few days, whereas the 3D is still in the best screen.

Prefer going weeknights also as less chance of having a bunch of 16 year old girls giggling and whooping - having personally experienced that at 'The Conjuring' and seriously pissed me off, and took great pleasure in shouting "shut the f*ck up!" at them.

In the same situation myself due to a busy Christmas schedule. Will still be going to see it in 2D, no matter the screen, hate 3D.

As for the answer to the OP, I'll avoid opening weekend at all costs, too many chances of distraction with big crowds. I'll leave it a week or two and take an early weekend screening. I used to go to a great cinema in Prague which did an 11am Sunday screening, usually a handful of people present.

It depends really. I was quite lucky with college this semester in that I was of on Friday's and could see new releases of an early afternoon with little or no people about.

Friday/Saturday nights can be hit or miss. Usually I'd book online using my Cineworld card so the time I save from not queuing is something I don't have to contend with.

However, packed cinema screens always run the risk of people talking/chewing loudly/rustling/checking phones.

If I have time, I prefer to go early evenings during the week but depends on college assignments etc so sometimes Friday/Saturday nights can't be helped and if I wait a couple of weeks, I find myself playing catch up with the influx of new releases on top of things I've yet to see.

Depends on the movie tbh, years ago I would have went to big blockbusters asap as seeing them a few weeks later would have meant putting up with degraded prints, not an issue anymore with digital projection (a tiny part of me misses the flaws in a reel of film though). Now it's really dependant on the movie, work schedule and if mates want to see it or I'd just go myself midweek. Usually avoid busy weekend times, Saturdays and Sunday day showings are a massive no no for me.
