Brake Upgrade Help

    Afternoon,

I have a stock Shimano Sora 9 speed triple groupset on my road bike. Most if not all of my spins are around wicklow. I've been getting into cycling quite a bit over the last year but still am not a very competent or confident decender.

On more than one occasion recently I've thought "Jesus these brakes are crap" usually descending behind traffic.

I understand there's a definite improvement in the 105 or Ultegra brake systems? I've looked on line at the price of components and it's not a huge ask to replace the brakes with either of the above.

    Two questions.

    1. Will I notice a difference?
    2. Can you fit off the shelf 105 or Ultegra front and rear brakes to a Sora groupset?

    Thanks folks.

Swissstop flash greens are the only job for aluminium rims. Way better than stock brake pads but fairly expensive (€30ish).however the last alot longer and have great stopping power in the wet

    Or do you mean calipers?

Thanks a mil, I was assuming changing the callipers but if upgraded pads will get me improved performance then that would work.

ive never upgraded calipers so i cant really say what the improvement is, but i know from changing from stock brakes on my Madone to the Swisstops there was a massive improvement

    Cool thanks guys.

As a rule of thumb are Shimano groupset components interchangeable?

Obviously they need to be set up for the same double/triple speed config but if I was to upgrade the brake mech to 105 would it work with my Sora triple shifters and cabling?

    Thanks again
