So the OH and myself have been engaged for almost two years now (most people have forgotten we're even engaged at this point!) and have had no concrete plans for the wedding until recently.

We researched the kind of wedding that we (he!) would like over here (around 100 people, with the Waterside Hotel deal) which would set us back a total of around €9,000-10,000 total versus a wedding abroad, and the cost differences are astronomical!

We are now seriously thinking Malta as our destination of choice(for a small ceremony of around 40) as it seems the most beautiful and cost-friendly, as well as easy to navigate as English is so widely spoken. We love coastal areas, beachfront areas etc.

It will be a purely civil ceremony, with no church or blessing. We were hoping to do it without a wedding planner as I have read from posters on here (who no longer seem active :(). We were hoping for summer of next year, all planning going well.

If anybody has any recommendations and tips for Malta, please let me know.I can't wait to get properly started!

We really are on a tight budget so we can't really afford wedding planners. Would they be expensive?

Getting married in Malta this June. Been over multiple times over the past 18 months and love the place! Sleima/St. Julians are probably the front runners for weddings, but I would also research Mdina and Gozo.

Although we considered going without a planner and doing things ourselves we decided against that route in the end. We figured that having someone project manage the event was important to us to allow us to just enjoy our day. The last thing I want to be doing the day of my wedding is getting phonecalls from caterers/florists etc. If you were super organised then this might not be an issue, but we just didnt want to take the chance.

We are already happy we made the right decision as our planner has come up trumps in terms of service planners and, most of all, with the venue. We were shown a location that bowled us away and I am 99% sure we would never have found/considered it if we were looking ourselves.

Word of warning- don't be under the illusion that a wedding in Malta will be 'cheap'. Weddings are a big business over there, and some costs are almost on a par with what you pay here. Catering in particular can be pricey (but can be negated if you choose a hotel as your venue). Also bear in mind the cost for your guests to attend the wedding (working out at a minimum of €300 pp for our guests), although they can use the trip as a holiday.

All in all, we are delighted with how things are going and can't wait for the big day!

If you need any other tips/advice etc. then by all means PM me.

We thoroughly researched lots of different hotels until we found ours at an unbelievable price for the location, for a small wedding of 40 guests.

I would love to be able to afford a planner, but I sincerely doubt that they could work with our budget, and I really feel the money they charge for their services could be better put elsewhere for such a tight budget.

Some of our guests were a bit peeved about the location as it is quite expensive between flights and hotel, but most were delighted as they said they could use a holiday!

Hi, I like many of you am beginning to plan a wedding in malta for 30-35 people. I would like to get married in a small church and have the reception by the water. Has anyone dealt with a planner and if so what cost for packages were you offered. I would really appreciate any help (I feel a bit daunted at the min:(

Hi, im like yourself just starting out and was in contact eith some planners, most start at 1000 euro and go up. None seem to have a package though, they all seem to quote for individual items (venue, church etc) am thinking its gonna be easier and cheaper just organising it myself, 1000 euro is a lot! Although im sure if you wanted something different then it would be money well spent!

I went to a wedding in malta last summer, it was lovely, especially the reception afterwards, very chilled out relaxed atmosphere, great weather on the day. as for the finer details of it I'm not too sure but yeah there supposed to be a fraction of what it would might cost here.

One piece of advice in my opinion. Don't tell your guests you can make it your Summer holiday. I find this really rubs people up the wrong way.
