    Hi,
Just wondering what the story is with insurance companies loading for penalty points. managed to add 8 points to my previously spotless licence in the space of a month before Christmas. (4 fines, 3 of these were from the same location, gatso van plonked on the way out of a town I’m new to , right where the 60 zone ends. Managed to pick up 2 of them within 10 minutes of each other going either way, tough **** I suppose,)
My premium is currently E500 p.a. My question is how much Vaseline do I need to buy?

I'd say any guess here would be as good as your own. The only ones who would know the answer to this question is your insurance company and they probably will not know until renewal time.

But at a guess I would say it will increase substantially with 8 points but my main concern would be not to incur anymore as 12 points is an automatic driving ban afaik and then you will have a world of pain getting a realistic quote.

It shouldn't be that bad. From what I recall, Aviva give a discount for zero points, no loading for up to 4 points, a small loading (5% or so) up to 8 points and a much bigger loading (15 or 20%) above 8 points.

It does depend on the company though.

Note that you are probably obliged by your insurer to notify them of your penalty points before your next renewal, so you can ask them then.
