hey new to this forum and would consider myself within the beginner to intermediate group for skiing. Im heading off in 2 weeks to Pas de la Casa and was wondering would it be more economical to rent a helmet for the week or just buy one over here (try find a bargain).

I'm not looking for anything fancy just an entry level helmet. Sure let me know if any of you have past experiences or know of any decent deals.

Also was thinking the same about renting a steady cam. I found I could rent one for the week for €90 in Ireland and wondering if I were to rent in Andorra would I get ripped off?

    Thanks!

When I was in Italy and Kitzbuhel last year my friends rented helmets for no more than €20 for the week, usually you get them as standard hire these days

You could buy a helmet starting ar around €40/50 so if you're planning on sticking with skiing you could look at buying one.

To maxx have some at the moment ! Great outdoors in Dublin and snow and rock too ... I would buy my own because renting you just don't know what hardship it's had with previous renters chief

I'd sooner buy a cheap brand new one in resort than rent one that you've no way of knowing its history. If a helmet has had a hard knock it can weaken the absorption padding and reduce its effectiveness in future falls.
Just because a helmet is cheap doesn't mean it won't meet the same safety standards as one twice the price.

Have a good time in Andorra, conditions look great over there.

Haha, d-don just got there before me

Cheers lads, so might just have a look round here locally and see if I can get one for max €50. Let me know if you see any bargains

Renting a helmet in Andorra should be no more than €20 for the week.

Same with skis, if you only go a week a year then the buying makes little economic sense.

    Buying makes sense as

1 you know the history of your helmet

2 you know your size is available

3 you know what you are getting

    4 No head lice :D

(just kidding, I'm sure they're all fumigated after use)

Only drawback owning a helmet is the space they take up in your suitcase, but pack them with socks, etc., to minimise loss of space.

Got the one in Aldi a few weeks ago,
Was impressed and really liked it.
Was in TkMaxx the other day and tried on a "Campus" helmet!
It was fab and so comfortable, bought it for 39.99 and have my camera on it now mounted ready for the trip in a few weeks.
