Hi all I really hope someone can help.. I bought a old Toyota celica car in 2011 of a guy in Dublin .. I have spent the last few years restoring it and I put the car back up for sale ... The car has never been on the road and I never transferred ownership into my name, I live in the north just outside newry and was going to put it on northern plates but In The mean time I put it up forsale to see if there was interest... I have since got a chap who is willing to buy the car and he is from Dublin also, the only thing that is putting him off is the fact the car was not sorn of the road ... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHATS THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS AND WILL THERE BE ARREARS...

    Alan

Arrears will cease to exist when change of ownership

Change of ownership = no arrears the new owner taxes it from the date the logbook was transferred.

The new owner is only liable for motor tax from the start of the month in which he/she becomes the new registered owner.

There is no issue. New ownership clears all sins so to speak.
Knowing some people can be a bit cautious / misinformed, if it was still an issue for the purchaser, you could even get it registered from now in your name for a few weeks, put 3 months tax on it for him and then transfer it again to his name.
