Advice on Opel (Vauxhall) Insignia

Comments

Have an Insignia myself and they are great car.

Though, I'd be highly suspicious of those two. The mileages don't tally in my head for the car and year. Generally bought for high mileage. 09 diesel big car with 29k miles? Very dubious (to me) and a quick google of the garage and Naas road area in general will reveal plenty of food for thought. I think i'd be looking at Opel main dealers if i was you at this price range (they ain't even cheap).

The main difference is the spec.

The first one is a SRi model which is Opel/Vauxhall speak for sport model. It has sportier alloy wheels, lowered & stiffer suspension, sports seats and other sporty bits.

The second one is a SE model which is more designed for comfort and more sober, has half leather seats, etc.

Very low mileage on both which is something to be cautious of considering the Insignia is a very popular rep mobile driven the length and breath of the UK.

The wheels on the SE look bigger? 18s?

    These?

    Edit, they're both 18s

Thanks for the replies so far if anyone has anymore advice/info all is appreciated even on the dealers (Bill Griffen I've seen some stuff here pretty much 50/50 but he is out there a long time he surely has to be doing something right to be still going) (I haven't seen anything on Naas road autos so any advice appreciated)

Road High - They're 2010 not 09 but I do agree that they're very low mileage.... Do you mind me asking what you think the car is like on fuel etc

Bazz 26 - thanks for that I did look at the Opel site (http://www.opel.ie/vehicles/opel_range/cars/insignia-sports-tourer/models/available-models.html) The SE was on it but couldn't see the SRI... It says the SE should have a sat nav but isn't in the car I've listed is that just something that's become standard in the last year or two do you know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Sat Nav was only standard from 2011/2012 onwards. The Opel website will only list current specs, not what was current 4 years ago. SRi Limited Edition is listed in one of the drop down boxes. Another thing to note is that the Insignia has just got a significant changes for 2014 to the 2010 models you are looking at.

Also Vauxhall specs while similar to Opel can be different.

Sat nav is a late 2012 addition to standard spec

I have the 160 bhp SRI Ltd Edition with the sat nav added. Very striking car it has to be said and plenty of power on tap.
Fuel economy is not amazing but I have a very heavy right foot! It has improved over time it's doing about 45 mpg mixed driving I think.
Rough figures; Circa 1000-1100km per tank around €100 at current prices.
The VAG and PSA engines are better for fuel economy.

I thought it was more recent but just wanted to ask and the sat nav doesn't really bother me its a nice little extra but I have one anyway. The handsfree for the car is far more important which I think both have.

Bazz - Thanks only noticed that drop down menu now... I know it would come down to personal preference but is there one that is better than the other in your opinion or is it literally one is sporty and the other is more comfort as you stated earlier?

Check for Bluetooth too. Some of the sat nav models don't have the Bluetooth module which is ridiculous at this stage, the phone button just mutes the stereo

That car would be the upgrade on either of them then I think isn't it?
It's better than the fuel economy on my car at the moment 01 - 1.6 petrol - A4 think I'm getting around 450-500 miles (roughly 750-800km) to €90-€100 tank - I'd prefer to know with a heavy foot because I'd be a bit inclined that way myself at times

I didn't have a clue what you meant by the engines being honest :o just had a quick google - The other car I was considering was a C5 but its looking more like an Insignia will win out

Oh so that button on the steering wheel of someone talking is just to mute the stereo? I actually just assumed that was a bluetooth hands free system

Ridiculous as it is, on some vehicles, yes.

Thanks a million for that I just assumed that it was a handsfree bluetooth kit where the sat nav isn't a big issue the hands free is a must in the car for me.

It says the SRI model has the bluetooth in the ad nothing on the SE

Easy enough to check. Press the phone button on the dash and if the radio mutes it doesn't have Bluetooth.

You might want to google those dealers as they have mixed reviews. Something to take note of if you need to go back to them with a problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 365 ✭✭Nopeare

nint9er - Thanks for the information I will check that on those or any of the insignias I look at.

Bazz26 - Yea I've googled them and as you said its really a mixed bag for Bill Griffin. I didn't see to much on naas road autos.

Good deals privately. Was looking at this one myself last week although I'm not mad about the white.

In relation to Bill Griffin I was in there a few weeks ago and I didn't like what I saw so I left and wouldn't deal with them. Could be fine though I've never bought off them. Seems to be all about turning over as many cars (from the UK) as possible down there whether they're genuine or not is another matter. And whether your covered if they break is questionable.

wow thats a great deal, just a bit too much for me, think the white is actually ok but the black in the Insignia with chrome is what really caught my attention in the car originally.

I was in myself already and got the same impression that things are priced to sell and its about turnover, also noticed a lot of stock were from the UK. I've never dealt with them myself before either but they're there over 20 years I heard, so they must be some what ok so I was thinking of getting a mechanic to go with me

I'd rather the SE over the SRi thb. Seems more classy esp with those alloys

I've bought my last 2 cars from Naas Road Autos. Found them very sound to deal with. Can't comment on the Insignia but they had a really nice 2010 Insignia estate back in November but was a bit outside my budget.

I got the vaxhaul insignia elite 2011but it hasn't got the bluetooth. If I bought the bluetooth module is it just a case of putting it in or would it need to be programmed.
Sorry for hijacking the post it just seems people on this post know about the cars
    Thanks.
