    Hi there

I wont name anyone here because of the legal reasons.

The dealer sold me the car 2 years ago stating it had only one owner and i only recently found out that it had 2 owners.

    What can be done?

Luckily, I still have a screenshot of the advert posted on carzone 2 years ago which clearly says one owner on it.

Also that dealer had lot of complains against them so they are trading under a different name now.

    Thanks

What did the logbook/registration cert say when you bought the car?

I would expect you have no recourse as the Ad is just that an Ad, look up invitation to treat.

Are you sure the dealer wasn't down as an owner or if it was a demo car when new then it would be down as two owners even though it really only had one outside of the dealer.

What difference does it make at this stage?

No, dealer didnt say he was the owner.

How did you recently find out?

Seeing as it was 2 years ago, you would have no chance anyway. Not that I think you would have had a chance to begin with anyway.

Cos i was selling it as i am the second owner but actually am the 3rd and it does affect the sale price now.

I was selling it and the person who liked and wanted to buy checked cartell report and it shocked me too. Made me look like a liar !!

Nothing can be done now unfortunately. Even if it could, the fact that the dealer has changed name means that the company that you dealt with 2 years ago almost certainly no longer exists.

How old is the car? Assuming its not only a couple of years old I really doubt it makes a whole pile of difference to the sale price tbh.

Would the ad have said "1 previous owner"? When you include the current owner at the time, that means it now has 2 previous owners. When you come to sell it, you'll put 2 previous owners, right? But when the buyer gets the new log book from Shannon, it'll say 3 previous owners.

Regardless, this isn't fraud. What do you hope to gain out of this anyway? 1 or 2 previous owners on a car will not make a difference in price at this stage.

It shouldn't really matter to be honest. I'm assuming it's at least 3 or 4 years old, can't really see any point in following this up as it will just be a waste of your time. I can understand being annoyed about this completely though.

Thanks. Yeah lesson learnt. Need to be careful going forward.

How old is the car you are selling? Unless the car is less than 2 years old I wouldn't have too much concern whether it had 2 or 3 owners.

Just sounds to me like a buyer is being clever by trying to use it as an extra haggling point with you.

That dealer has so many bad reviews that first thing comes in mind is they scammed me. Thanks anyways. Yeah i better forget it and be careful going forward.Cheers

Dealers regularly advertise "1 previous owner", this is technically correct at the time of sale if the car has had 2 owners. You will then be the 3rd.

It is confusing alright. I am not sure now if I am actually the 3rd as i do remember them telling me that car only had one owner. Anyways just wanted an advice and think ill close the case here. Thanks for all the replies!!

In fairness if a dealer is going to scam you then its going to be on something a lot more worthwhile than the number of owners!
