Installing a consumer-end water meter

I really am sick to the teeth about these water charges being forced on us, anyway I want to install my own water meter, partly to check the bills and partly because I think I may have a leak between the water main on the road, and my house.

Any suggestions / recommendations as to what type of meter would suit? I have access to the rising main which is 1/2" copper on my side of the valve. I'd be cutting into the copper pipe to install the meter.

Ideally I would like the smallest physical meter possible - the pipe is very close to the wall - and with a remote-reading digital display. Is such an animal available at a reasonable price, or should I stick to the normal water meter with the mechanical digital display?

    Thanks for any input!

Water meters can be bought, BSS in Rialto or HEVAC on the Naas Rd should have them.
If you suspect, or there is a leak on the pipe from the supply meter into your home you will be responsible for its repair unless its the connection at the meter.

If you wait until the water meter gets installed you can just open the box and check the reading yourself. If you identify a leak and let Irish Water know the first fix is free as long as they are notified within a year of the meter goin in.

An iskra P2G logger will give a graphs and usage etc. it'll work with any pulse output.

Smsmetering.com will charge about 12 a year to display collect and display the data
