Passat B7 steering rack coding

Basically, car was in a side impact crash in 2012, seems it didn't mend well and the latest thing to start acting up is the steering rack. Loud cluck when changing direction at low speeds, and a knocking sound on small bumps. I can see that the rack doesn't travel in a straight line through the housing as well, so probably bent a little.

I'm in the process of getting my new(second hand) steering rack and will replace myself, I've seen that a new characteristic curve needs to be uploaded, I was wondering if this can be done at home or does it need to go to a dealer. If the latter, does anyone know how much dealerships charge for some small coding jobs?

It will need to go on diagnostics to be set up. Not necessarily a dealer though. Where are you located?

I'm in Clonsilla, Dublin. But I can travel, that is if the car is drive-able with the default characteristic curve.
