White stuff on outside wall

    Hi Guys,

    There is something that occasionally apprears on the outside wall of the house and I will appreciate if you could help me idetify the source of this, and how to deal with the problem:

    Its called Efflorescence, basically its dissolved minerals leaching out of the concrete and drying to form crystals or deposits.
    You can buy a special chemical to remove it from most hardware stores.

    I agree with CJ Haughey, It's known in the trade as salt or salting. You can purchase a clear solution that seals the exterior wall and then can be painted over. Often home owners complain of dampness or condensation on inner walls as a result of drastic salting on the exterior wall (not just small patches.)

    Heavy salting can be an early sign of a porous exterior wall. However if it's only in minor patches clean it off with a solution of bleach and water and then use sealing solution.
