1st time builder and long time lurker

    1. What is your budget? €1300 but can go a bit higher

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming, World Of Warcraft, BF4 and GTA5. Also general use- email, speadsheets, etc.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No, don't think anything from my old P4 will be of use except the speakers

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 22 inch would do fine, 1920x1080 would be nice

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Need new keyboard, mouse, a gaming headset

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes, going to give this a shot

    8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser

    9. When are you purchasing? A week or 2's time once the crazy Xmas parcel battering is over.

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Co. Clare but should be fine.

Will post a parts list I have done up on HWVS once I sort out script.

Case is a good one. So is the power supply. Anything else?

Run your parts through the discount site. Think the graphics card is only 217 when done so, might save a few on the rest too.

Is it possible to change the keyboard config from german to english, along with maybe swapping the one or 2 letters to the correct physical position on the keyboard. If not please recommend an illuminated keyboard from somewhere else.

Thanks, yeah will run the list through Geizhals before I order.

No don't get a keyboard from there. Amazon is best bet.

Got the parts yesterday for this, build went perfect, just had to buy some Sata data cables. But i made a huge error and need some advice.

I got Windows 7 in German, managed to install the thing, have product key entered. Have not installed any drivers or connected to net yet. After a bit of digging I realize I have to upgrade it to Ultimate to get English language.

So what is the best option, upgrade to Ultimate or just purchase Windows 7 again?

Also would it be possible to return the Windows 7 German to HWVS and if not would it be possible to sell the key to someone else to activate their Windows 7?

And yes, I feel like a complete idiot!!!

Download an iso of windows 7 english version (digital river have legit ones) burn to dvd (or make a bootable usb). Then wipe your current windows install, and install the english one. The key should be valid regardless of the language - as in use the german licence key

Thanks, have been trawling the interwebs all morning and came up with that solution just 5 mins ago. Downloading her now from a link on the Microsoft windows site.

The language options for Ultimate are only if you want to regularly switch languages (on different user accounts, for example). If you just want an English version, as Lu Tze says, just download an ISO from Digital River and install that.

When you buy Windows, you're only paying for the key. You can use whatever form you like to get Windows on your machine. As long as a valid key gets entered, Windows doesn't care.

Got the OS problem solved. Thanks for the help Lu Tze and Serephucus.

Now I have hit a new one. Build runs perfectly until I put the MSI 760 Twin Frozr into the motherboard. When the PC is turned on all the fans start running for 15seconds, then everything just stops except the fans. Nothing ever displays on the monitor. On the little digital display it runs quickly through some codes but does not settle on one before it just goes blank as well. Last code it displays is A2 which is a Sata issue.

I have a question just to make sure I am installing it right.

It has 2 power sockets, an 8 pin and 6 pin, I have a modular design PSU and so can just run the one cable over to it and on first set of connectors place the 6 + 2 in first plug and with the second set of connectors on the cable just plug in the 6 pins by themselves, is this right or do I need to run a second cable over to it?

    Things I have tried-
I have reset the BIOS to defaults
Run the PC without the GPU in the board without issue.
Can't install drivers as saying no GPU present.
Checked Event log, only error is - Kernel Event Tracing "Session failed to start with the following error: 0xC000000D", which from my digging is a pointless Microsoft error.

Anyone got any ideas as this has me stumped, have spent quite a while digging on the net to see if I can track down a solution without success.

Have you tried a different port on the graphics card?

I actually had the same issue with my latest build. Had a cable plugged into one of the DVI ports - nothing. Tried a HDMI cable instead - nothing. Plugged DVI back in to the other port, and it worked perfectly.

You can also try using the onboard graphics ports as well. Then when you get drivers installed, switch over.

And yes, what you have done with the PSU is what you're supposed to do.

Try the other set of PCI express power cables on that PSU.

Then try another PCI slot on your motherboard.

Tried it in the 2 other slots and swapping out the power supply cable, and got nothing, put it back into original slot and tried rebooting a few times and swapping display cables. And viola it worked. Must have just been slow to register until drivers were installed.

    Working a treat now.

    Thanks Sterling and Serephucas.

Nice, glad to hear you're firing away. Now get that shadow play sorted and enjoy the full benefits of that card.

I have the Plantronics Headset GameCom 780 headset, Its gets really uncomfortable after wearing it for an hour or so. Hurts my ears. But the mic quality is great.

Had similar problem with headset I bought. Had a metal strip at the top, I physically bent them at the top. Sorted it. Only recommend doing this if you are heroic.
