Ethernet Speed

    Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I have a 120Mbps internet connection, but laptops only seem to have 10/100Mbps ethernet connections. Does that mean I won't be able to use that extra 20M?

    When the UPC guy was here and he used his laptop to test the speed, it was definitely showing faster than 100Mbps.

    If there are laptops with faster ethernet connectors, can someone point one out to me?

    You'll need gigabit ethernet to get that extra 20meg. But for all practical purposes you shouldn't notice a difference.

    (Although I would have thought gigabit ethernet was standard these days)

    If the laptop only has a 100mb nic then yes the maximum throughput would be 100mb. In practice it would be a few mb lower.

    There would be lots of laptops with a 1 gigabit nic on it but do not have to go searching right now.

    You could try amazon.
