Lads, anyone agree that Ballyalton @ 15/8 has to be a serious bet with Paddy Power tomorrow? I know Oscar Rock has let his form down a bit but he was ultra impressive beating Hobbs fancied Supreme horse lto over an inadequate trip. Racing Pulse and Royal Regetta have to be respected but neither has ran at Cheltenham before and Ballyalton relished the hill the last day despite making what should have been a costly mistake mid-race. I thought he'd be an evens shot tomorrow.

All the early money for Racing Pulse so will leave it till closer to racetime to make a decision on Ballyalton. His will get bigger by looks of it anyway.

Agreed. Between him & royal regatta IMO. Course form swings in favs favour. This is a big step up for racing pulse based on anything he faced in his hurdles debut so I cannot have him.

Looking at the market, we may see 5's or bigger Royal Regatta. I'll be very happy to play at that price going on his last run, and the dent in form Ballyalton took

That may well be the play of the day, given Hobbs knows what he faced the last day v ballyalton. Its between them, havnt seen video regattas runs so will check tonight but I was impressed the way ballyalton ran through the line on his last two runs (costing me money on each occasion dare I add).

Pulled like a train all the way around and somehow still managed to win easily. How good that form is, is unknown but at that kind of price is worth taking on the chance he's very smart

Aintree race form working out fine. I'll have a closer look tonight (its important to get 2014 off to a good start )

Hobbs reckons its the best novice hurdler hes had in years, and if hes better than garde le victoire he will have the beating of Ballyalton,Racing Pulse won a mickey mouse race last time much tougher tomorrow.

The Giant Bolster looks absolutely huge at 11/1 against this mediocre opposition. Rated 159 over fences, it moves over to fences tomorrow for the 1:55 at Cheltenham where it has a much lower mark. Conditions, course and distance should all suit it fine. Horse has done as much as the rest over hurdles, but has some top chasing form as well. Can surely see this one steaming into 7's or 8's before the off. Is carrying close to top weight and has a jockey onboard I am unsure of though. At 11/1, am happy to take gamble on tbis. With the hope that the class of the horse should be enough to shine through. 11/1 currently available with BetVictor, Totesport, and BetFred.

Am on one with a similar profile to yours except I think Burton Port is on a very nice mark. Year and half ago he was running over fences to a mark in the 160s.
Down a massive 15 pounds after his debut for Jonjo in October, he was eased 2 furlongs out and wasn't exactly hammered that day by McCoy out the back.

We all know those two lads are capable of magically turning a horses form around and I'm taking the 14 to 1 chance that they do so tomorrow.

Opened an a/c with em a while back & tried for the evs Sprinter Sacre last year. Clean a/c and was on my offered half the stated max. E-mailed em & was simply told it was at their discretion

To reiterate I hadn't been restricted with them (had only one previous bet with em, a special that lost & even for that first bet I was offered a pathetic maximum) had never had another a/c with em

Rarely use the account as their prices are usually topped elsewhere in any case

Corals are utter cowboys. Once got a 50/1 single up that I did ew with them. They tried to diddle me out of the ew part. Had to ring customer services and talk to a supervisor before they admitted the error and rectified it.

Wasn't countrywide flame in the triumph? Sounds strategic as opposed to an error

Can't even remember the name of the horse, was 3-4 years ago. There was definitely nothing strategic about it, no deductions, no reasons whatsoever not to pay out.

I mean they probably didn't pay the ew part on purpose..what you backing tomorrow francie, your doing well with your tips on here lately

De La Bech 12.45 Cheltenham 5/1

A really likeable sort with a good battling attitude to boot. Its winning run last time out saw him beat both the 1st & 2nd in the Welsh National over 3 miles at Chepstow. Looks a real staying type so the extra 2f could bring about even further improvement.
Here's hoping this one can kick the new year off in style.

Well, The Giant Bolster is one. The other one is one Bangor Billy and I were both on called Mendip Express last time out when it won easily at Bangor. Cheltenham tomorrow (12:45) is going to be a tougher act to follow, but I think the odds of 5/1 are decent. Based on current performance, the kind of improvement needed shouldn't be beyond the horse.

Friendly Society ew 10/1 3-30 Exeter

Formerly trained by Michael Hourigan this one surely would have a great chance on the basis of his run at Punchestown in October where he finished 3rd behind King Vuvuzela beaten just under 6 lengths. The winner of that contest went on to win a nice pot at Leopardstown on St.Stephens Day.

    2:10 Musselburgh - New Year's Eve
    2:25 Fairyhouse - Groody Hill

both could potentially make their handicap marks look very foolish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,931 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Anyone got any opinions on who to back in the New Year Sprint at Musselburgh at 3:00? The race is unique for a national hunt racetrack by the virtue that participants run without jockey's and are in fact human.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,907 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

    Equitania 2.00
    I like this

Timmy murphy has a good book of rides at musselburgh today for his comeback from suspension. I suspect he'll bag a race or two.

Hard to pick a horse today. Got that bet voided on Prohibit and left it without a bet. Thought Deepsand in that good race at Musselburgh was a big each way price at 16s. Might keep myself for Copper Dock Friday one last chance.
