Hi was wondering if anyone could identify the type of spider in the attached file. I was concerned that it may be a false widow spider? Thanks

Pattern doesnt look right for a false widow. Similar shape though

It is a false widow but nothing to be worried about. My garden is full of them, feckerd get inside sometimes and we are still alive :-)

I've picked them up more than once. Spiders like that don't go out of their way to hunt fir humans so relax

No red hourglass, not a black widow.

He's asking if it's a false window spider, which looks similar to the black widow.

I can't really make out the markings in your picture but when I google images of false widow this one has very clear markings:
    http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/1/photos/756000/620x/33756.jpg

I think they are meant to be no more dangerous or painful than a pinprick or beesting unless you are allergic to them.

I would be a bit afraid too though, spiders creep me out but mainly very large ones.

Saw Alladin a few years ago and to me it looks like a False Widow Twankey in disguise.
    Hope this helps

Did I not just confirm that? It's not a black widow ergo it is probably a false widow.

I thought you assumed the OP was inquiring if it was a black widow.

Cheers everyone, was bitten by a similar looking spider a couple of months ago and found this one under the washing machine. He's in a glass at the moment, but I've a feeling his destination is going to be in the middle of the open fire! Very festive.

Just let the poor thing out the window.

I knew the OP was asking if it was a false widow.

I confirmed it was NOT a Black Widow.

Jeesus, pedants on the internet, exhausting.

It doesn't look like from reading your post, you seemed to think it was a black widow. No-one mentioned anything about black widows until you did and distinguishing the difference between black widows and false widows is being pedantic, it's could be a matter of life or death.

No, rolled up newspapers were invented for this kind of eventuality.

Maybe if you are under 5 or extremely elderly or have a compromised immune system however Black Widow bites are very very rarely fatal. Dramatic much?

    It's definitely a death-dealer spider.

    Pick it up OP.

So is it a Back Window or not? I hate back windows.

I've decided that it is a false widow spider and that cremation is the fairest way to go. Spiders roasting on an open fire.... Anyway, spider's dead and the washing machine is fixed. The next question, how on earth did this end up in the sump? See photo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,221 ✭✭✭NuckingFacker

maybe the spider put it there.

Why did you you kill a harmless spider? Do you like flies? Cus that's how you get flies...
