New Audi lead times?

Anyone got an idea what sort of lead time I might expect for a new Audi A3 Saloon? I placed an order in the first week of November through a non-Audi car dealer (VW) but I haven't received any update since then. I had thought about 8-12 weeks might be average. The car is a 1.4 petrol with 17" alloys and sound system upgrade if that makes a difference.

Probably 12 weeks, maybe a little longer.

One of the girls in Audi Cork told me they're struggling to meet demand. I'd imagine Audi dealers are top of the queue for whatever is available, however as you ordered something very specific you're probably looking build + shipping + delivery only

Problem is many other countries are ahead of Ireland in the pecking order for production slots these days, so it can often take a long time to get a car built and delivered.

Opel are fairly bad for it, in fairness to Audi and BMW they're not too bad.

Audi and VW are typically 10-14 weeks in my experience.

Well it can't be as bad as Alfa - ordered my new GT in October 2003 for delivery in Jan 04 - - it arrived in October 04 so the garage stored it for me until Jan 05 - never again.

I'd say you wouldn't be waiting too long for an alfa these days.

I'd say if you had to order one for whatever reason, you'd be waiting 16-20 weeks for one.

In saying that, they haven't got a huge range to choose from, so you'd be mad not to settle for a colour already in stock.

Out of curiosity - why would you order through a VW dealer? Easier information flow through an Audi dealer. First week of November probably got February/March build week judging on demand and supply situation at the time. Ask your dealer to check with the Audi dealer what build week it has - then add three weeks on for delivery and you have your date. Normally for Audis its 10-12 weeks but A3 Saloon and Q5 are currently higher due to very high demand. That 1.4 is a treat - and good work going for the 17s although the 16s arent actually that bad. Post some pictures when it arrives.

Skoda told us they can get us a new Superb (Custom Order) in about 3-4 months.

I placed my order for an A4 (with extras) in early November and have been told that it has been built. It's just awaiting shipping and the 10 week lead-time ties in with the comment made by RedorDead.

I ordered the A3 through the VW dealer as I had bought four new VWs from him over the past ten years and I have a very good relationship there, always very well treated, so when I decided to go for the new A3 Saloon, I asked him for a price and he was pretty well as keen as three Audi dealerships I also got quotes from. Also prefer to buy local. :)

and yes, I will post pics.
It's an SE, Monsoon Grey, 17" 10-spoke wheels and Audi Sound System, this is close to what it should look like:

Nice one - send us a pm with the comm if you want it checked for arrival. 10 spoke alloys nicer than in pic above. SE is great value though.

Just got word today from the VW dealer that the car is due in Ireland on Jan. 20th.:)

Short for commission number. Used to ID cars/orders. Car may arrive in Ireland on the 20th but it will still take a number of days to extract from the boat, move from port and send out to dealer not to mention prep etc. Allow yourself a week max from there.

you'd be mad not to settle for a colour already in stock.

I've bought (thinks) 5 new cars over the years, but I have never bought one in the spec and colour that's in stock, I've always had to wait weeks/months.

The whole point of buying new is to get exactly what you want. Why pay new price for some paddy spec tat the dealer ordered on spec?

I once bought a "pre-reg" car and took what the dealer had: that's fair enough, you get a hefty discount to be the second owner and take a colour and spec you didn't order (but it was a Seicento Sporting, there weren't any sensible extras, and red was the second best colour after banana yellow anyhow).

Yeah ordered myself a new Audi myself, mid of September. It arrived by ship around December 20th but with the usual new car rush, it takes time for it to reach the dealer.

I should hopefully have it this week or early next week.

Why are other countries ahead of us? Numbers. The numbers of new cars sold in Ireland compared to the UK, France or many other European countries are tiny.

So if I bought in the North. Even Paddy's Spec on special order would be quicker?

We actually seem to be much better on the main volume stuff than the UK. They were waiting 14 - 16 weeks on A4's last year, while we were getting them 8-10.

Even though Ireland gets less production slots, there's less orders going in, and Audi Ireland usually get it fairly correct on the planning side.

You could be waiting 6 months for a new Golf GTI in the UK. That is the expected norm over there! Here you'll get a factory order within 10-12 weeks.

The dual reg plate seasonality in the UK means customers are willing to wait a little longer for delivery but i agree - it shocks me how quickly irish customers get their cars compared to UK customers ordering from the same factory. We have people walk away from an order if it goes over 15 weeks!

Theres a lot of metal there in stock though through the distribution chain as it is such a large country. Most popular specs and colours are in stock at any time. Obviously not on recent popular models though.
I think manufacturers and distributors do very well out of Ireland. All sales here are pure cash (even PCP as the residuals are crap and don't really cost anything to guarantee regardless of what the dealer tells you). The cash is released immediately from the bank via the dealer to the distributor onwards to the manufacturer.

In the UK sales are mostly via lease to business where only the lowest lease gets accepted. Not many large pure cash payments there. I saw Merc were giving away brand new 350 Sls there for 350 a month or so. This is a car that costs 160k euros here!! Surely Mercedes in Germany must be loosing their shirts on them in the UK whereas any they sell here they pocket the cash less the taxes immediately.

There could be more delays I imagine in to some orders, as alot of motor importers will now be trying to negotiate extra production slots for 2014 that they had not previously agreed. Regarding the a3, I'm shocked how few there are on the roads, a cracking car and I believe will carve a nice niche out for itself. I'm wondering have audi come up against production delays and hense the shortage on the ground.

The A3 is nice but very costly and not mainstream. I think base on a 2l tdi is 30k with a few options easily taking it to 35. An A4 2l tdi is 34 so not much of a difference. I think (but not sure ) the A4 might have a better spec .

The A3 Saloon is indeed costly but I recently drove both the 2.0 TDI 140hp and the A4 with the 2.0 120hp engine and the A3 saloon was a far sharper-handling car and much more fun to drive. Boot space isn't too much smaller than the A4 and given that a new model A4 is due in a year or so...

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/audi/a4/63593/new-audi-a4-2014-release-date-and-rumours

....I had thought of getting a pre-reg 131 A4 but after my two test drives, I thought the A3 saloon the much nicer car to drive, evenand though a size smaller. I went for the SE and it seems to be pretty well specced with an all-new look so I hope I've made the right choice - and it's petrol too :-)

Ordered an A4 SE with Future Now extras on December 7th. Garage has given a build week of 4 (w/c 20th Jan) with delivery week 8. I chose Monsoon Grey with Dark Chestnut Nappa Leather seats which is a leap of faith as I haven't seen this seat colour in the flesh.

I took a few test drives of the A3 saloon but I found the road noise was noticeable. The SE spec in the A3 was ok but I think the A4 spec is better but that may be due to a new model coming in 2015.

Ordered mine from Audi Naas. I've been told the ship arrived but that there was a large number of cars on it that needed to be delivered so it would take time.

Not only that, but some are in NVD in Baldonnell, but some are in NVD in Ringaskiddy. Thankfully my urgent one was in Baldonnell (and went today), but we've a couple more in Ringaskiddy that have to come to Naas, then to Dublin, then back down to Cork for the end users

Good luck with it when it arrives.
