Hi I have a bike that I want to get shipped from the US. It's a beautiful vintage Univega that's been given to me as a present. The bike is been boxed by a local store over there so does anybody know any cheap options out there apart from the usual FedEx ups etc

    Thanks

Just beware that you may be required to pay VAT and customs duty if the insured value is marked on the shipment.

Cheers for that but its a vintage bike that a uncle is giving to me so I would not have taught that I would have been charged VAT and customs etc

You better check that with the Revenue. Importing anything from outside the EU may incur charges. This thread has a lot of information.

And this link from the thread will allow you to calculate the possible charges.

You have to declare a value on any goods being imported and be aware that charges are calculated on that value plus shipping and insurance costs.

Do you have a friend or family member who might take it with them from the states? Aer Lingus, for example, are quoting €40 to take a bike. Also, would they avoid VAT and duty if it's declared by them for personal use?
