Products to help dry after a wash?

Hello to all my fellow compulsive weirdos :D

I've watched a fair few videos on YouTube from AmmoNYC, I'm sure some of you guys are aware of him. He seems like a top detailer, and shows us how to do a lot of things properly and in great detail.

One thing I have noticed is, he seems to plug a lot of his products, and the one has grabbed my attention the most is Ammo Hydrate.

Basically it's something that you spray on the car while you are drying with the towel, and it totally speeds up the drying process, and seems to leave a protective barrier behind. It also adds some much needed lubricity between the towel and the clear coat.

As I suspected for a long time, an improper drying technique can be just as damaging as the wrong washing technique

    Here's a vid:

Ok, you know what I'm going to ask... Is there anything similar I use? Can this ammo stuff be got here?

One product I have used on a wet car is Autoglym aqua wax. Which seems similar but requires a bit of buffing afterwards.

You can probably get a similar result using quick detailer as a drying aid.

Ah brilliant. I always thought that the quick detailers would still leave a haze that needed buffing afterwards?

Only reason I ask is because sometimes I have very limited time to get my car washed, and sealed. And the time spent drying could be mean the difference between just a quick wash, or a wash and a good sealant.

Does anyone else use any quick detailers during the drying process? If so, which ones are best?

You could try one of these things :)http://www.cardryers.co.uk

What are you using to dry the car now? I find that QD helps some but that stuff is kinda pricy by the bottle so I tend to just use a towel.

Autosmart Tango will do what you want here.

You lightly mist it on the wet car, taking a panel at a time, and give it a quick wipe with a clean mf.
Give it a minute to dry to a haze, and then a quick light buff-off with a separate dry mf.

The second you mist it onto a wet panel, you will see it chasing the water off the panel.
When you've finished, you've got a bone dry car with no water spots and a deep gloss thrown in for good measure! You can even use it on the head/tail lights.

BTW It's used at 1:10, so it's unbelievably good value.

    Jaysus Dredj!

I always wash my car at work. Everyone thinks I'm some kind of nutter when they see me with two buckets, lambs wool mist, and big drying towels... I'd get some stick from the lads if I was to start using a big bloody hair dryer on her aswell!:pac:

Thanks for the recommendations, I must look into that tango further.

I would still love to know if there is a single stage spray I can mist on the car with my drying towel, quick wipe and I'm done? I like the idea of adding some lube in when drying, for ages I've always thought I was damaging the paint when I was drying it.

Has anyone here any experience with autofinesse finale? This is meant to be a drying aid aswell as a quick detailer

If you have a good drying towel there's no need for QD's! ;)
The likes of Demon Shine helps sheet off water so there is less to dry off with the towel, but it leaves a residue that affects a lot of LSPs, IMO.

You should do no damage to your paintwork when drying provided the car was well washed and no/not much dirt on the car, your towel is soft and plush and you store it correctly.

Autoglym do a great product for this also, I think it might be trade only but I will check it out. You simply spray it over a wet car and then rinse off. The vast majority of water falls straight off the car, leaving only a very slight bit of water to be removed by your drying towel, meaning less chance of any damage. Its is also LSP safe and will not effect waxes or sealants. The huge plus with it is that is dilutes 100:1 so you only need a very small amount. I think its about €30 per gallon. I will check it out for sure and let you know :)
