Heading to Tenerife in March and looking for somewhere to rent a road bike for a week or 2. Anyone know of anywhere decent?

Found these guys on the net http://www.tenerife-training.net/bike-hire/) but rental is nearly 30 quid per day, which seems really expensive (a rental car only costs this price!). I'm just looking for a standard alu road bike with any sort of groupset at all really. I figured I should be able to get something for about 15 quid per day, but perhaps prices are just really high for rentals.

    Thanks

€30 a day is reasonable. I'm being quoted between €40 and €70 a day for bike hire in the south of France in April and we paid €15 over in Tenerife for a half day rental on a lump of a cruiser 2 years ago

not sure where you're headed but there's one in El medano which had a good range of Bikes and if too windy for the road, the windsurfing is only deadly there

Yeah I got a Ridley Orion with ultegra from bike point in el medano earlier in the year for about €25 a day, including a helmet, track pump and saddle bag with tools and tubes, I thought that was reasonable. Would work out about the same to bring your own bike over if you're taking direct flights if that's an option. I had to take two flights in both directions so it would have cost a fortune to bring my own bike.

Hired a bike from tenerife-training about 4 years ago and thought it was a good bit less than that and i hired for 10 days. Leslie who runs the bike hire business is a nice fellow and had the bike set up well and was able to deliver and collect the bike from the hotel free of charge (i was based in the north of the island in puerto and i think he is based in the area)
I do remember that bike hire was scarce on the island and therefore prices can be higher than in the other canary islands (i.e ultegra carbon bikes can be hired for approx 17 euros a day in gran canaria.

Just bear in mind that 2 weeks is along time to spend in tenerife on a bike as the number of routes are limited depending on where you are staying and there are only so many times you can climb teide.
But you are committed to two weeks you are probably at the point where it begins to make more economic sense to bring your own bike.

Also don't go expecting to kick start your training as you will need a very good base done before you go or you will struggle for ten days . My last trip was a toss up between tenerife and gran canaria but chose GC i felt i did not have enough miles in the legs to get the best out of a trip to tenerife and GC offers a more gentle introduction to the high hills and variety of routes.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate in asking.

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone. I'm based one week in Puerto de la Cruz now and 1 week in the south of the island, so i'll probably only be renting for 7 days. So generally helmet pump tubes etc are included in the bike price rental? Didn't realise that, might make it a bit more economical.

I'm actually heading out to learn spanish in a school out there for 2 weeks and i'm just using the cycling as a way to see the island for a few days. What are the essentials that you need to bring out then? Obviously plenty of bib tights, jerseys etc but would you bring gels or any other stuff in particular?

Shoes and a strong set of lungs if tackling teide
