I am going to visit relatives in Newry and would like to combine with some mtb with my 5 and 8 year old. Are there any easy forest trails in kilbroney/Castlewellan or anywhere else in the general area?

There are some green trails up in Castlewellan that are well signposted and would be suitable for kids. There is also a little pump track to play about on, and a coffee shop for afterwards. Here is some info about the trails here: http://www.mountainbikeni.com/castlewellan/ Hope this helps

Good recommendation on Castlewellan. Did a few laps of the easy circuit around the lake, but also incorporated a few sections of single track from the blue route which the kids loved. Time was against us, but I expect there is a lot more for them to explore. Coffee shop was closed but we used the one just outside the forest park gate. Spent 30 mins trying to get to the centre of the peace maze before we had to call it quits. Will be going back again at the very least to conquer the maze.

Would welcome any similar recommendations regardless of where they are in the country.
    Thanks
    Michael
