Was Mary a virgin or a liar?

How many people/what percentage believe that Mary was untouched by man?

Did she really shame Joseph or is there a possibility of ghostly rumblings under the sheets while he slept?

I hope AH can put this one to sleep for once and for all.

Mary just wanted a lil lovin and it backfired, if it happened now a days she'd prob shack up with Joey, say she was single and get a free house off the government!

Not sure how true it is, but heard before that the idea Mary was a virgin came from some sort of mistranslation. Sounds quite likely!

Its all one big game of Chinese whispers.

You should not be so harsh, he was not offensive in any way and was only trying to spark up a fun and engaging conversation.

It is the internet boards and having a fantasy thread can be a lot of fun, it is the internet so try to enjoy yourself. If you just don't like the topic then move on.

Went to a Nativity play out in the Tallaght Civic Theatre there last week and there was this gorgeous looking girl of around 17 I'd say, playing Mary.

She was was an absolutely excellent actress. I mean, a 17 year old virgin from Tallaght?

Is it possible she was neither? And the story of a virgin birth didn't appear till after she was gone?

She must have at least been fingered behind a skip. (or a wicker receptacle)

    Hi there,

I have 100% no interest to be a mod, but like in general, if we talk and think about it, if you want to spark up a real thread then go feel to do so, but the amount of bogus threads on the forum can be awful too such as looks and all this crap, but that's cool too.

Anyway, the internet is filled with continuous content, AND LISTEN TO THIS; boards.ie would be the LEADING (1ST) English spoken forum (amount of posts, users and activity).

So enjoy the forum, fantasy and these types of threads can be a lot of fun and interesting.

    edit:

we all may come to the internet to discuss a range of topics, and having some fun can be great for your morals and general spirit.

*6 year old Mint Aero at nativity play*

Mint Aero: Teacher? What's a Virgin Mary?
Teacher: How dare you?! Stand in the corner!!

    *2 hrs later*

Teacher: Let that be a lesson t'ya, ya little pup ya.
    Mint Aero:

*Some years later watching the Xfiles* (virgin sacrifice)

Mint Aero: Ma, what's a virgin?
Ma: Your Da will tell you when you're older.
    Mint Aero:

    Years later...

Mint Aero's Da: Son, you know it's ok to get excited by women?
Mint Aero: You're about 8 years too late with this conversation Da :L

    True Story.

Moral of the story. Explain what virgins are to kids at communion if you're going to feed sh*te to them.

I actually thought Virgins were something people would slit you open for if you were one...and I didn't know if I was one or not for years. Thank you xfiles and religion :)

    Good morning sir.

Could you per chance enlighten me as to what a real thread is?

I found one on my pants tonight?

Is that like a metaphor for the threads that trail off topic at 2.40 in the night time?

How about you ask it in the Atheism & Agnosticism forum.
Normally I would be the first to say that After Hours is a collection of various forums rolled into one. But when you start saying "possibility of ghostly rumblings under the sheets while he slept?" - you're not asking a question, but looking to get it up for people of faith.

So how about you get a life, believe what you believe, live and let live... and feck off :)

    Sound hard? :)

You can change the code by pressing # twice then 1 2 3 4.

Then press 2 5 8 0 to reset the keypad.

Now enter your new four digit code followed by # twice and bingo you're done.

    Mint, I wrote something for you;

A special world for you and me
A special bond one cannot see
It wraps us up in its cocoon
And holds us fiercely in its womb.

Its fingers spread like fine spun gold
Gently nestling us to the fold
Like silken thread it holds us fast
Bonds like this are meant to last.

And though at times a thread may break
A new one forms in its wake
To bind us closer and keep us strong
In a special world, where we belong.

Your talent is God's gift to you.
What you do with it is your gift back to God.

Mint, you are my rose, my flame. You said the correct words, I love you.

Get a fourth one to shout BINGO!

Mary went to a sperm donor clinic... everyone knows that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,628 ✭✭✭Femme_Fatale

There's a theory among theologians that she was raped.

Joseph was apparently a decent skin who agreed to marry her to protect her, as being pregnant and unmarried would have meant punishment/death for her.

She was only about 12/13 too.

2,000+ years on and that sh1t is still going on in some hardline muslim societies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,802 ✭✭✭✭suicide_circus

Similarly, does Muhammad's consummation of his marriage with his 9 year old bride make him a paedo or a liar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭Red Nissan

She was only about 12/13 too..

But that was custom, it was practiced all over the world and in the US as example, in Frontier Country it was legal to wed a 12 year old whereas it was not legal in the Eastern Part of the country and that law was only repealed during the 1960s I believe.

At one time I believed that Mary had been artificially inseminated by the angel and her story is remarkably like modern alien abduction stories today. However as all these stories, including the crusification were made up and altered to suit the contemporary needs of the ruling catholic church I no longer believe in the virgin birth, and when we consider the society she lived in, it would have been a duty, rather than romance to marry.

She most likely had a large dowry or inheritance that Joseph would own as was the custom of the times.
