I'm planning on getting sky broadband or vodafone, but i dont have an active phone line, should sky or vodafone activate it because a sky salesman said i'd have to pay something like 120€ to eircom to get them to activate it?
If sky wont activate it,would Vodafone activate it if i was to go with them?

    Hi

Firstly is there a telephone line coming into the house? If there is then activation from the exchange is all that is requitred and it will cost no where near what Sky told you. If you are in a fibre enabled area the connection fee is around €49 depending on ISP (excluding Sky at present) The €121 connection charge normally applies when a new line needs to be installed to a property that never had one and that usually is paid to Eircom.

Is cable (UPC) or fixed wireless (Digiweb Metro, Imagine Wimax, etc available in your area. If they are then that may be the way to go, as they don't charge line rental and installation can be free depending on packages offered. Worth a look.

Just had a better look at digiweb and found a fairly good offer..How would digiweb compare to broadband through landline eg sky?

Sky often refuse to do the provide, will make you go with Eircom for the first year to provide the line.

Connect a phone to the line and see if it gets a dial tone. If so you can dial a number(119911 or something, cant remember) and get its assigned number from the exchange.
