Is car due oil change?

    Hey,

Car is a Mini One, 2004, 1.6L Petrol.

Last oil/filter change was 11 months ago. I searched for the mechanic here on boards, so I assume he was an honest mechanic. He advised the best/expensive oil went into the car so I presume he did that.

The car has done 10,000 miles since and doesn't seem to have burnt any oil, in fact I didn't have to top it up even once all year!!! According to the dash, next service is due in 5,000 miles.

So, it's not low on oil, the best oil was put into it as recommended by BMW, does it need an oil change now, or can I leave it a little longer?

According to http://www.finol.ie/which-oil/app/ it says intervals for this car is every 24 months?

    Thanks

Why not change it for piece of mind ?

Its up to yourself mate. I normally do mine once a year and I do about 10,000 miles per annum. You could do it now or go the next 5,000. If she feels like she's running fine you could let it go another 5k.

Be prepared for a wide range of opinions on this!

I usually change it after 1 year or 10k miles whichever comes first on any car I have owned.

    Cheers for the replies guys.

I suppose I could change it now, but I don't want to be emptying good oil if it's not required yet for a while.. I understand so-called normal oil needs changing yearly, but I assumed the "good oil" BMW recommend doesn't need changing yearly?

    But seriously...
Yeah there is variable servicing on them I think, ie the car will ask for a service sooner rather than later if it decides driving conditions warrant it(dunno if that can be switched to fixed mileage intervals). If you are confident in the oil, and the level is right, and no clatter or clacking when you start it im sure it will last the other 5k miles. If you felt like changing it yourself you could now, no harm in keeping intervals shorter.
Ill put it this way, id say the majority of them have been driven beyond the 15k without the dipstick even being checked...
