    Guys
Looking to buy a new helmet. Current one is a cheap €20 and needs to be replaced. Wasn't ever that comfortable and a bit heavy tbh.

I've been searching for the last couple of days and come up with these 4
Has anyone any got any of these or maybe point to any alternatives? Needs to come in at about €90 or under. I'm going to spend that little extra to get a better comfort and fit

    Specialized Perpero ll

    Giro Savant

    Met Forte

    Cratoni C-Shot

Please don't turn this into a helmet v no helmet thread. I'm going to wear one.
I'm not going to be convinced not to wear one. I simply want any feedback on what might be the best one for my budget
    Thanks

I can't comment on your selection bar the Cratoni C-Shot Helmet 2013 looks really nice and seems good value, good reviews too. But if you are near wheelworx, fonthill retail park in Lucan, they have a good selection upstairs to give you a good idea of fitting, so I found.

I ended up going for a http://www.wheelworx.ie/accessories/helmets/Zirion Spiuk Zirion, for vanity reasons :o
I didn't care about the colours but it was the only one that sat right down on my head with little or no gap between the ears and the helmet itself. Therefor avoiding the whole "mushroom" head thing.

Cheers. Not near Lucan. Down here in the Whest!!
I'll have a look though online and see if I like!!

The Spiuk getting good reviews on Wiggle too

I've the Giro Savant (black white and red verson) No complaints here. Only thing I'd suggest is to try it on. I've a large fitting helmet, which is just a little bit loose, a Medium probably would have fitted better. But as I said, nothing to complain of, good helmet, looks good, comfortable fit.

I'd give my vote to the Savant also!

Another vote for the Giro Savant, mine is in the post from Chain Reaction Cycles. Wiggle are the cheapest I could find at €75, but no Medium helmets available. Bike24 were next at €80 but they charge about €10 delivery. CRC were next at €82 (I spent €100 and claimed €10 back)
The Savant gets great reviews, weighs about 250g and looks like the top of the range model which costs about €250.

The Savant looks like the one to get so by all accounts. Sizing as per the chart I presume? A lot of different helmet reviews I read had complaints that recommended size didn't fit

The Savant in medium actually goes from 55cm to 59cm, so it covers a broad range. Medium is generally 56cm. The best thing to do is measure your head with a cloth tape.

The Giro Savant is €81.49 on CRC and €65.71 on Evans

Evans will have a 14 day delivery though and choice of colour limited. They do have it in my size. That's a massive price difference. Nothing to indicate whether there are 2013 or 2014 models

I have a BBB Hawk which is around €50. They're very neat and you don't end up looking like mushroom with one on. I was thinking of getting a second helmet and the Met Forte was going to be my choice but I've never got round to buying one.

I got the Cratoni C-bolt from Santa and I'm very pleased with it http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/cratoni-c-bolt-helmet-2013/rp-prod88196
My son has the Giro savant and I dont find it as comfortable as the Cratoni.

I had the same dilemma myself a couple of weeks ago trying to chose a helmet. After trying a whole bunch of helmets on, I decided on the Kask K50 Evo. It fits like a glove and is very narrow - so no mushrooming! It was €99 in my LBS but they did it for €89. I have to say it is by far the most comfortable one I tried - the only one that came close was the Propero II you linked to above but it looked incredibly 'wide' on my head (I think my noggin must be very narrow or something).

The one thing I'd say is you have to try them on for size. By all means take to the web for the best deal but you'd be surprised by the different fits. For example, I tried most of the Specialized helmets and all but the Propero II were too wide a fitting as there was too much movement from side to side, so not all models within the same brand are the same fit.

I think the most important thing with a helmet is to "try before you buy"! I know for me Giro and Catlike helmets don't fit my head shape very well while Bell fit like a glove!

Definitely try (and buy) locally. Fit is very important and as C3PO says, different helmets fit quite differently.

Bought a spiuk nexion in wheelworx for the exact same reason. Not my local shop by any means but they had the widest selection of helmets which helped as you have to try them
