Children on irish rail

How are children supposed to purchase a ticket for a journey after 6:30pm and especially on weekends?

The TQMs only sell adult tickets and ticket office is shut. I can understand if you're travelling into Connolly, Pearse or Tara where u can purchase on the other end, but what if you're travelling to a suburban station such as Kiliney or Dalkey where you only have the option of walking through the barriers?

Only adults must have a ticket. If you have children you pay if someones in the booking officer either at where you get on or get off. If noones at either end its basically a free ride and no noone will fine you for the children if your coming from a place thats unmanned.

I actually had the same issue a while back, marginally different as I have an annual ticket and couldn't buy a child ticket through the vending machine without first selecting an adult ticket and then adding the childs ticket. I emailed Irish Rail and was told to buy the ticket in advance when the ticket office is open. To make matters worse, we'd often get teh train from Skerries or Balbriggan and there's no one most of the time.

Perhaps buying a childs Leap card would be an option.
