WARNING - Mary Street - Capel Street

Don't know if anybody has ever posted this before, but here goes. My friend was cycling home along Capel Street, near Mary street, when a guy came out of the side road on a bike and crashed straight into him. An argument ensued and while he was arguing the guy attacked him, he attempted to ward him off but was struck from behind, another guy came running over to join in and he tried to fight them off. They tried to get his wallet but he managed to hold on. The Guards arrived and he managed to hold on to the original attacker. However his bike was taken by the attackers.
Another friend was cycling along the same area, when this goon stepped out in front of him and tried to stop him. He managed to avoid him.
Turns out the guy who crashed into my friend had only been released from Prison a couple of days previously.
It seems these scumbags have a bit of a thing going on around there. Be warned.

I heard of a similar incident in that area about 6-8 weeks ago. Some guy stepped out in front of a cyclist and then tried to take his bike. The cyclist was putting up a fight until two more joined in and they made off with the bike. The guards had a good idea who was involved and it looks like it's been happening a lot in that area.

Scary stories, hope the cyclist is OK.

I would have been more helpful, if you post where abouts in the country it happens.

    Mary street/capel street? Dublin.

Apparently the scumbags have mutated. This technique displays a facsimile of higher order cognitive ability.

Going by your speeds in urban areas, I don't think you've much to be worried about! ;)

I pass that junction several times weekly and it wouldn't bother me - a belt of a cycling shoe would do wonders for these scumbags. Bring it on!

I really do think that more "caution" sings should be added, or some sort of indications around where scum attack.

Out of curiosity, was the bike in question new looking or anyway showy ? In other words did it look worth stealing ? I too, use that route frequently as convenient way to cross from the Northside into the south city centre. All the bicycles I use are 15+ yo, and probably wouldn't attract too much notice. The only hazard that I have found on Capel street is cars parking, opening doors, occasional HGV and pedestrians walking out. Mostly travel during daylight though.

I've cycled down there plenty of times too, good to have the warning.
If someone crashed into me I'd think it was genuine and not be on guard, now I will.
    Sad state of things.
