You get an email saying they were being processed? Said to me I would get an email within 24hrs saying so.
Took 2 months last year to get tags in the spring.
Had a heap of calves going around with made up tags

same here just ordered the big lot there now, will be interesting to see how long it takes for them to come. The mullinahone website is a big improvement on having to ring them

have to order replacement tags soon definenetly have picked up 15 tags at least in last month in feed passage, on slats etc. dont think its a good idea to order that many at once as it might bring an inspection upon myself

So what do you do? Think it's better to have them ordered at least. Also you would be paying multiple times for postage

I would prefer to have them ordered. Have a pair of tags here for a lunatic cow. She won't put her head out gate of crush and kicks back when you go behind her. I have the tags here for her what would you do?

Wouldn't say so. As last ng as the cow has one tag and you have ordered them there is nothing they can do. Not your fault the cow lost her tags

But if you are ordering single tags as replacements would it flag anything on the system ? I wouldnt have thought so but I could be wrong

I've spoken to plenty of lads who had whole herd inspections after ordering two tags for animals.
Best to order single tags as much as possible.

Wedge her into the crush with as many other animals as it takes. get a ratechet strap (without the ratchet) and drop the metal hook over the far side of her head. get a stick and pull that from under her and tie her side on to the nearest bar in the crush. then shes half held, aanother bit of ignorance and the tags are in.

I dont have a problem with it as I order a lot of tage as calves put their heads out though bars to to drink milk and lose a lot of tags. I wait until I have 10 to order to keep the postage down.

Seriously that is total scaremongering. I order plenty of doubles over the years and the dept are not knocking on my door yet. If the tags are needed order them. Often find just after I have ordered some another animal has lost tags so I order again when it's fresh in my head

I ordered a Moxy load mostly singled and a few doubles, this was for the test in Oct and no inspection yet

Well I've spoken to three lads in the last year who had inspections after ordering doubles. Coincidence maybe but I know others who would never dream of ordering doubles, including myself.

each to their own, had a calf health inspection earlier in the year, nothing to do with tags being ordered. Will continue to order as needed

Could it be anything to do with herd size? I.e the lad with 10 bullocks ordering doubles would appear more suspicious than the fella with 150 cows ordering doubles?

Maybe , im not sure how many inspections are carried out as a result of the dept putting 2 + 2 together anyhow . I dont think working logically is how they do things , there are always the same lads getting away with murders and never seem to get inspected any more often as a result from what I see

lost a good few calves 3 years ago with crypto, rotavirus etc, this triggered an inspection for me. Then i had a cow aborted vet blooded her and then dept guy rang to say i had been listed for an inspection and he would do the reblood and calf health inspection at the same time. He went through everything i do from day 1 with calves and took alot of notes- his brother was having similar problems and he was glad to get the info off me- walked around sheds etc, checked medicines record and herd register and that was it

Was thinking of going down the route of the Electronic tags.
Have any of you done this, if so is there any difference in the 2 options:
"Electronic + Tissue Sampling Tag(s) Set" or "Combined Tissue/Electronic + Conventional Sampling", as in is 1 more prone to fall out than another?

Guys, anyone know if it is still ok to use the old style BVD Calf tags from over a year ago?
I still have a few here to use up. I ordered enough for about 1.5 years the last time I ordered.

Ya the little green button ones. The little sample bottle is the exact same as the new ones anyhow.
I rang Mullinahone just to check and only got answering machine.
