Hi I have a mits pajero with the engine management light on, i got it checked out and it turns out the egr valve is not opening and closing properly, I'm a bit down in power but nothing major,

I was wondering if I can take it out and put anything on it to free it up or would I be as well off
to buy a new one. I have been aquoted nearly 400 to supply and fit, I could do without it given the time of year, but if theirs away around it i would appreciate any advice thanks

You could try removing it and give it a good clean, plenty of videos on you tube if your stuck, Not sure about pajero but you could get egr delete, as I don't see the need for them they only cause more trouble.

Basically you can buy or make a egr blanking plate to stop the exhaust gases from going into your egr valve. If you blank it off your engine light will come on and stay on with the fault code p0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction. you can get your egr mapped out of the ecu . I got mine mapped out about a month ago for 50 euro. I always blank my egr valves off and drive around with the engine light on you get used to it .This has been the first time i got it mapped out of the ecu so no engine light . You could also just take it out and give it a clean

And does the diagnostic machine do the mapping out ?

Not any diagnostic machine will do it. You need ecu remap place who will map it out for you.

    go to this guy http://www.sportchip.ie/
He will fit a blanking plate to the EGR valve.
Some ecus will not throw an error when this is done and others will.
if the ecu needs to be updated he can do that for you.

I have used him in the past and I would recommend him
