Processor Performance

    If an old Pentium 4 and an new i5 both have a clockspeed of 2.8, I presume the i5 still performs better.

    Why? What other factors are taken into account when determining a processor's overall performance?

    Thanks

    The number of cores is the main difference mate. The i5 will have 4 or so but the pentium will only have the single core.

    Compared to an i5;
    Smaller number of CPU cores,
    Handles fewer threads,
    Base frequency is lower,
    Lacks some instructions,
    No integrated GPU,
    The socket is obsolete
