It's harder than it looks to be a welfare officer it seems!

What the article does not get into is the "why" in all of this? What good would it be to abuse and threaten the staff?

My solution would be a simple one - abuse the staff, take a holiday from your benefits for a while. Nobody should have to put up with that shyte!

Take a holiday? That'll be taken seriously you know.

    Cut benefits permanently, for life.

Should be zero tolerance with this type of behavior, a cut in benefits would do wonders in stopping it. Back when I was in college I worked in a social welfare office for 4 months of the summer and the take, take, take attitude off some people is revolting, people that you know will never contribute anything to society. The only financial aid I ever received off the government was a grant for my college education, for which I am eternally grateful.

A family member is a social welfare officer who sometimes cannot deal mentally with basic family duties at weekends due to harassment and verbal abuse from some clients during the week.

Socializing locally is also out of the question as they frequently intimidate her in pubs and even at kids sporting events.

Who thought up this crap of labelling a citizen of Ireland a "customer" for availing of state services, totally pointless exercise.
