My insurance certificate with Allianz says the following (just few quotes cut from the whole text)
    (...)
    C. Limitations as to Use:
    - Use for social domestic and pleasure purposes
    - Use necessitated by overhaul, upkeep and/or repair of the vehicle for the Insured
    (...)

    D. Persons and Classes of Persons whose Liability is Covered:
    - The Insured
    - Any person driving whose driving is covered except a person in the Motor Trade driving the vehicle for purposes necessitated by it's overhaul, upkeep and/or repair of the vehicle for the Insured

    (...)

    F. Drivers or Classes of Drivers whose Driving is Covered:
    - The Insured.
    - Any person in the Motor Trade who is driving with the Insured's consent for purposes necessitated by the overhaul, upkeep or repair of the vehicle for the Insured.
    - The following persons (names of named drivers here) and no others

Provided the person driving holds a licence to drive such vehicle or having held such licence is not disqualified from holding such licence.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between "Persons and Classes of Persons whose Liability is Covered" and "Drivers or Classes of Drivers whose Driving is Covered"?
Because it looks like that under point D. cover is not valid for a mechanic test driving my car during repair, while under point F. mechanic is cover to test drive my car for purposes of repairing it.

In short - can mechanic drive my car and be covered under my policy with above statement in the insurance certificate?

I was thinking the same, but why this is stated in there?

i think that "persons" refers to private individuals specifically named by you to your insurance, where as "drivers" are collective categories of people. so a mechanic is insured under part F but not D because a motor mechanic is one of a collective of people not someone you know personally/ have named specifically. but that's just guesswork on my part really.

It's pretty simple if you read through it.

    Liability = any insurance payout.

A more clear way of reading it would be

"Any person in the motor trade driving the vehicle for purposes necessitated by it's overhaul, upkeep and/or repair of the vehicle for the Insured is covered for the purposes of driving the vehicle, but not for any liability caused while driving the vehicle"

    Or in plain english -

Mechanics are covered on the policy to drive the vehicle - they do not require their own insurance to drive it.

Any damage caused by a mechanic (to the car, or third party) is not covered under your insurance policy.

class of persons could apply in the case of open driving where anyone classes as over 25 and under 70 can drive your car.
List of drivers is those names on the policy.

Firstly, the Motor Certificate only refers to the Road Traffic Act part of your insurance. It has no bearing on the additional covers you may have such as fire, theft, own damage, breakdown etc.

Section F of the cert defines who is covered to drive your vehicle under the policy for 3rd party cover. In this case, the insured and the motor trade person are covered

Section D refers to whose Liability is covered and is more difficult to explain. Liability is your responsibility to others and, in the case of vehicle usage, there is more than actual driving that can be the cause of the loss. A far fetched example could be a person driving perfectly safe, when the steering wheel comes off in you hand causing you to crash in to a 3rd party. You didn't drive negligently, but your use of the vehicle was the cause of the accident. This section plugs that gap.

The liability section is not given to motor trade folk, as it could be their shoddy work on the vehicle that was the cause, whereas the owner and named driver may be totally unaware of any defect. The motor trader should have his own cover for defective workmanship
