    Hi,

I posted a similar thread a while back but I think I posted it in the wrong section. I also did a search and a lot of people seem to be looking for information on MA courses.

Anyway, I would like to do a MA Education next year, full time. There seems to lots of part time ones offered by lots of the colleges but not a lot from what I found in terms of full time options.

Does anyone have any experience of the one from UCD?
Or I found one offered by WIT.

Please shared any experience you had, I'm eager to hear people's thoughts.

Does anyone know if it's highly competitive to get a place on this course?

What's the difference between the MA in Ed and the PME ?

The PME is to become a secondary teacher I think. I think it replaces the HDip.

As far as I know an MA does not qualify you to teach. A PME is a teaching qualification.

You could contact the School of Education in UCD, I've found them really helpful with course queries in the past. I'm looking at part-time MA options for next year myself.

The MA is for people who are already teachers. The PME is for people becoming teachers. I'm looking for a full time one and it looks as if UCD is the only one which is why I'm wondering is it going to be impossible to get on to. There seems to be loads of part time options for MAs.

Sorry, I've no idea how competitive it is. Had a quick look at the entry requirements online - MA: "good honours degree" and "evidence of interest in educational issues." Compared to the MEd "normally hold an honours degree" and "must have relevant professional experience." Suggests that they prioritise educational attainment over experience for the MA. I'd imagine if you have a 1st or 2.1 and a teaching qualification you should have a very good chance of getting in. Not very helpful I realise! Best of luck with the application!

An MA tends to be more research based, and open-ended, while an M.Ed tends to consist of a series of taught modules, with a smaller research focus.

For the record the PME replaces the PDE (Professional Diploma in Educatin) which itself had replaced the PGDE (Post-Graduate Diploma in Education) which had replaced the 'H Dip'. The 'H Dip' (in Education anyway) hasn't existed for quite a few years now - at the very least five (definitely it was gone by 2009), though it has managed an extraordinary after-life in the informal nomenclature!

A Masters in Education is usually done by teachers who are teaching in a school and who are looking for promotion, that's why most of them are part-time. In my ETB, it is more or less impossible to get a DP job without one.

Could be wrong but check out trinity for full time med... Also, some one on our part time course (2 years) was allowed to complete all the work in 1 year! They were highly motivated and only subbing at the time though...I can't really see universities refusing money though, so it might be worthwhile pitching to a course director!

Yeah TCD do have a full time one, but you have to submit your idea for your thesis, which I have no idea as of yet would be. Where was that Armelodie??
