If everyone gives their top 12 it should be easy enough to compile and make a boards top 25 players of 2013. I'll take entries up to 12 tomorrow night and then post the results. Incomplete entries won't be taken so you have to have 12. No joke inclusions, Djemba's Djemba had his time.

    1. Ronaldo
    2. Messi
    3. Ribery
    4. Suarez
    5. Ibra
    6. Schweinsteiger
    7. Lahm
    8. Iniesta
    9. Neymar
    10. Bale
    11. RVP
    12. T.Silva

You have to put them in order 1-12 as it's weighted vote.

If you're talking about 2013, not sure RvP deserves to be there. Dipped for a couple of months after Xmas last season and has been injured for a lot of this campaign. 2011 and 2012 were far more productive years for him.

Given that it's calendar 2013, i'd have Bale a comfortable 5th anyway. His first half of last season wasn't great but his second half was sensational, with a decent start in a new club

yeh you prob right i just felt the current league winners should of had someone there and he was the main reason for their success

Any reason why Aguero is ahead of Suarez? Aguero was pretty poor in the second half of last season if I remember correctly and hasn't kept up with Suarez this season either, although you could argue that Aguero has played far better against the big teams.

Still one of the best on form but I don't think 2013 has been his year, 2011 and 2012 he was better.

Aguero I'd put on a par with Rooney. Suarez ahead of both but not by the massive amount a lot of people would. Aguero is profiting by being good in recent memory but had a very tough time of it last season.

The list should be more specific. I can probably see about 3 centre halves altogether and maybe 4 wing backs, and there's feck all of a contingency of goal keepers in there.

Build the list by position i.e; top 10 Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Forwards. Should the top 25 players of 2013 solely be based on attackers, etc?

You'll make a much more substantial list and something that could be polled at the end because from what I see now, the final result will not be a proper reflection of the top 25 of 2013. Just saying though, thanks for actually putting a post together for this.

Agree completely, I do think if we make a list it should be more representative than most of all positions, rather than the usual attack heavy focus.

Rayne Wooney, it's your idea, what do you propose?

It's not a scientific study, just a basic model to put together a top 25 from a sample.

If we wanted to be really accurate and do 10 keepers, defenders, forward well then you'd want to be getting everyone on the soccer forum to do it for the sake of complete accuracy or else you're wasting your time because you won't get a complete accurate answer otherwise, this would take weeks to compile as it's 40 names from each poster and you wouldn't get everyone participating in the end. And then how would you place the keepers in the top 25, how would you compare them to the forwards? How do you decide if the number 2 keeper goes ahead of the number 5 forward etc.

That's getting a little too complicated for a simple representation :)

The way I'm doing it is comparable to how they vote the Balon D'Or, but they only use 3 votes per voter whereas I suggested using 12 here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Fair enough, I'll try to come up with/find some kind of algorithm to get a top 25 with a balanced representation from different positions :D

It won't be perfect but it'll be fun to try!

The way suggested would work but it would take a very long time to compile and a heck of a lot of patience. And also you'll never get everyone voting so you'll know in the back of your mind that it won't be a truly accurate answer after wasting all the time and effort doing it!

A man with that much time and patience could use it more productively tbh :P

I was just curious about how a soccer forum one would turn out as we generally always moan about ones done on other websites and it will be funny if the one voted on by posters here turns out more fcuked up than ones we've moaned about before :pac:

I assume it's got to be a weighted vote, otherwise we'll have a bunch of players tied for first, and someone could prevent Ronaldo from topping it (as he appears certain to) simply by leaving him out of one list.

I can probably give a top 4 with some certainty but without watching Bayern, Atletico, Dortmund, Juventus, PSG and a bunch of other teams that have candidates for the top 12 with any regularity I'd largely be guessing based on their achievements.

    Nevertheless....

    1. Ronaldo
    2. Messi
    3. Suarez
    4. Ibrahimovic
    5. Ribery
    6. Schweinsteiger
    7. Falcao
    8. Bale
    9. Cavani
    10. Aguero
    11. Diego Costa
    12. Juan Mata

I'm a bit leery about the last two because I'm mostly basing their position on their exploits in this season and last season respectively.
But when they've been good they've been bloody brilliant.

Not saying it'll be perfect, I would just like it to be more representational! Obviously, I'm as prone as anybody to favour attacking players. Give me a while

Here are my top XII in order so.

It's easy to work out a formula to work out who wins. All the number 1s get 12 points, and the number 2s get 11 points, all the way down to number 12s getting 1 point. Most points at the ends wins.
