Summons to court

Hi, I'm looking for some advice please. Back in September, I was stopped at a garda checkpoint driving alone on a provisional license. My tax was also out of date. I explained to the guard that I was driving because of an emergency, my son had a accident at home and needed to take him to the gp, I had no alternative transport. The guard told me that I was getting a fine for no tax. The fine came and because of lack of finances I didn't pay it immediately. I misread the notice and thought that I had 90 days to pay. When I realised this, I contacted the telephone number on the notice who informed me I would receive a court summons.
Fast forward a couple of months and a bangarda knocks at my door with a court summons for driving unaccompanied on a provisional license. There was no mention of the non-payment of fine on the notice which is what I assumed I was being summoned for.
Can anyone give me some advise please? Obviously, I realise that I am at fault but do I need to be worried about a second summons.
