I know this may sound silly but i'm bad at reading signs and understanding guys' behaviour so i could really use your opinions !

So, I was in town with a guy friend, having a coffee. As we were almost done one of his best friends arrived. He is also a really nice guy and I thought he was going to join us but I left them 1 min to go fetching something, and when i came back the friend was leaving already and i think went joining some other people.
Then my friend said "he said he is not staying because it looks like i'm on a date...". I was surprised, he said it while smiling but in a bit of a shy way (not a mocking one), then i was a bit embarrassed ... awkward atmosphere between us. We soon finished and had to leave, but this joke kind of intrigued me. I've sometimes felt in the past like this friend was interested in me but i'm not sure... but do you think this "joke" his guy friend made could indicate something, do guys talk to each other about girls they "like", and tease each other like this ? Or is it just a joke do you think ...?

    Thanks !

Perfect oportunity right there to ask him what he meant.

"Oh yeah? And is it? :)"

It's impossible to know op. Do you like him?

If you like him, ask him out on a real date. It's the only way to find out for sure.

    I've suggested this before:

A - "hi B, do you want to go for a drink tonight?"
    B - "yes, see you at 8?"
    A - "lovely. It's a date! See you then."

Sounds like he wouldn't have minded if it was a date. If he didn't like the idea of having a date with you he would not have mentioned this comment at all and he would have made sure he put his friend straight on it and not let him go off. My gut feeling on this is that he is interested and would like a date with you, so encourage him and you could text him and ask him when the next "date" is.

It may have been a ploy to see your reaction; flying a kite to see if you thought it was a date / would like a date. I'd say he's interested.
