right so ive always wanted to learn both of these skills and so im going to start in the new year

But ive already crammed my time with other activities so ill barely fit one of them in, so i cant do both and do them properly,

just wanted some opinions on which to pick up?

dancing (as in street and maybe swing for the craic like this stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7lxd7RL1To)? or fighting (as in a proper martial art)?

Whatever you'd get most enjoyment from.

I have to say though, having learned to fight has had lots of benefits for me.

Capoeira combines both! Looks impressive too.
Capoeira (/ˌkæpuːˈɛərə/; Portuguese pronunciation: [kapuˈejɾɐ]) is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance,[1][2][3] acrobatics[4] and music, and is sometimes referred to as a game.[5][6] It was developed in Brazil mainly by African descendants with native Brazilian influences, probably beginning in the 16th century. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for a wide variety of kicks, spins, and highly mobile techniques

Dance. You can't bate the knickers off chicks. You can dance in the street still without being arrested.

Just in case anyone things capoeira would be useful for fighting. It would not.

You can learn to defend yourself fairly quickly. You can take a life time to appreciate your own beauty through dance.

hmm, i like some of the cool suggestions people gave with the wushu and capoeria, but at the same time that might feel like bit of a cop out? like your only half doing both and not getting the best out of either? like i said i wouldnt have time to get really good at both, so if i choose one ill be sticking with just it

As for people talking about getting attacked by scumbags...i know, thats why i want to learn self defence, incase of those situations i can protect myself and others, especialyl since i want to travel to s.america....at the same time, it rarely happens. ive been mugged once (and a half, gave back the money when he realised we knew eachother lol) in my life and attacked once before that (ran away, im fast, but if im with others i cant just run away).

but then with dancing you can use it every single night you go out and enjoy life abit more...
it feels like im choosing between getting life insurance or spending the money on a new car instead lol

Ah obviously didn't grow up playing StreetFighter 2!
We were led to believe that Capoeira was deadly.

Kick at the knee and run. No blood injuries with scum. No fists! If the problem persists beat them to death with something heavy.

I love dancing! It's so much fun and so many styles to choose from.

Can't fight my way out of a paper bag but if I get in a jam I'm sure breaking into my Charleston routine will scare someone off :)

It will instill a sense of "wtf?" in your opponent, and thereby confuse him.

It's something i have given some thought to for the new year, MMA or boxing. What were some of the benefits?
