The recent incidents involving the Dreamlifter landing at the wrong airport and the BA 747 in S. Africa got me thinking about Pilot error.

If a Pilot makes a mistake like those two incidents, is that it for him? Are they fired?

Everybody makes mistakes in their jobs, but can an airline take a risk when a Pilot makes a major mistake?

Depends on the severity of the incident/mistake but usually its a demotion for the skipper. Wrap on the knuckles for the FO. More sim time for both!
