Brilliant show, fair play to the team for that attempt, it looked mad!
I'd love to see them try that on a salt lake where the sand and distance wouldn't be as much a problem

Only seeing this thread now, will record it. It's being repeated tonight and tomorrow night on 4seven, and on Saturday on Channel 4.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Although he only beat it by 2mph....which is a bit sh!t considering the technology he was using, compared to the 110 mph speed...the 100 record was set in 1953.........

Not really. There is very little commercial advantage to blitzing the record. Sure look up how many times the high jumper Sergei Bubka broke the world record.

From Wikipedia : ...and broke the world record for men's pole vaulting 35 times

I'd say he would have blitzed it if he were driving on a road with race tyres as opposed to sand.

I wasn't familiar with this lad at all until I seen the show. Great screen presence, great show, can't wait for the next installation.

He is sound BIG TIME, no airs or graces. I met him at the ULSTER GP and it was like talking to a lad you use to go to school with. Unlike a certain Micky Dunlop that is like a spoilt child. ;)

Did they say why he did it sand, if the previous guy did it on a closed motorway how come they didn't try it on something like a runway.

I really enjoyed it, looking forward to the other ones. He's a cool guy, really does not give a sh1t! I would like to see him win a TT, although he has stated that once he wins one, that's it, he won't be going for any more, which I find strange.

Give the "Closer to the Edge" movie a watch if you have not seen it.

Its the ultimate big one, unlike the smaller RR in Ireland the risk is multiplied alot for the TT due to the speed. So if he wins it I dont think he wants to take the same risks again when he can get his kicks doing the smaller RR which are still dangerous. Then again he is an adrenaline junkie so I doubt he would give it up.

Deffo mad in the head to do any kind of RR TBH.

There are a good few Guy haters out there, constantly banging on that he can't win a TT, but i think the lad is a legend!! And i would really love to see him do well this year at it event though he did say the TT is only a warmup for the southern 100 hehehehe!!

You might also look for a docu he did called "the boat that guy built" good viewing :)

    Alright Chief!! Brew? :)

I think why alot of people dont like him is because he goes around like he is broke and has not got a pot to piss in, even before the TV work came along. When truth be told he comes from an extremely wealthy family.....people dont like people with money.

I think he is a legend TBH.

Hated on biker.ie. But they hate everyone, or you're banned if you don't say you hate him :pac:

There's a cool doc on YouTube where he visits the Orange bicycle factory. His manner is pure Fred Dibnah. Good watch too.

And if he acted like he has loads of money people would hate him too.... if he acts just like himself (which he probably does) they hate him..

Fcuk the begrudgers, he's the most likable rider there is at the moment. He's a marketers dream.

Brilliant program, I really enjoyed it! He's a right nutter but a very likeable guy I have to say. I've seen videos online of guys aqua plaining for dozens of meters on normal bikes. I wonder why they did not get the people who do that to consult?

I met Guy at an autograph signing in Bikeworld - I think it was two years ago - one of the reasons I went was my 7 year old daughter wanted to meet him. Now I do know that he was there at the behest of Dainese and AGV to whom he is under contract but he was at the table signing autographs talking to people and posing for photos most of the day - I believe he didn't even stop for lunch and apologized to the people waiting when he had to leave and go for a comfort break. We spend 4 or 5 minutes chatting with him, got the requisite photos and autographs and he spent some time talking in particular to my daughter.

I do know that some people have issues with him - he was vilified by a poster over on biker dot aye e some months back over some issue at the TT where the guy was waiting for an autograph and there were a few complaints that he was off-hand with a few people who were looking for stuff to be signed at the bike show in March last year.

My one experience of him however has been to the contrary - just my tuppence worth.

Any link to that thread on biker.ie? My experience is that all of the TT riders are very nice people. Whenever I've been over having a walk around the paddocks you can often see the riders chatting with the punters. John McGuinness is a very down to earth lad. I saw Guy Martin several times riding around on his pushbike at night just seeing what's going on - was happy to say hello and wave to people.

You don't really get that in Formula 1.

Big thread here - lots of differing opinions - trying to find the actual thread where some guy goes on a rant over not getting an autograph

Interesting. Just read the whole thing there. There are two sides to every story but I think some of the begrudgery is unfair. One of the reasons people like him is cause he does whatever the hell he wants. In the early days he was not bothered about the fame, attention and money, but now he's doing a few things and making a few quid - fair play to him. He's hardly Miley Cirus ffs. I really hate it when people have done well for themselves, get a few nice toys and then get pissed on because of it. Sometimes the most successful people are not the ones who do the hard graft for 100 years, but the clever ones who 'work smarter not harder'.

Interesting, i assumed the default position on biker would be to dislike him, but in fairness, almost everyone likes him.
The begrudgery from admin on that thread is funny. Dislikes him because he has a few quid!

I didn't think last nights one was as good. Seemed like despite a team of scientists and modern technologies, they did not do anywhere near as well as the German father and son team in the 70's. Still enjoyable. Pressure is on for Guy this year! I really would love to see him get a win though

great show but i thought the aqua planning one was a bit of a cop out with the skid fairing added to the bottom of the bike, didnt seem right to me
