Is this not normal? I have had it heading to Moscow Via Frankfurt and also in Heathrow coming back from Romania

Fairly sure it's standard through FRA from DUB at least the times I've been through.

I went through around the time problems were found with security at DUB, that may not be the reason however.

Some airports have it. some don't.
EG AMS has security point at most boarding gates. (seems a waste of labour to me)

That's perfectly normal at many transit airports - the same thing happens at Heathrow and Paris CDG.

It also happens in Dublin. Passengers arriving and transferring go through the same security screening as everyone else.

    Sounds pretty normal to me.

You should go to israel! I flew dub - fra - tlv a few months back, mother of god the screening we got!!! and we got a ferocious going over leaving TLV, 2 hours of it and i was still drunk

Just back from SFO via LHR. I'd argue that the screening during the stop off in London was stricter than in the US. :)

The only time it bothers me is when I have a >100ml container in my bag and Ive forgotten. (Generally because my flight originated in the US)

I've transited in many airports and there is always security screening between your flights.

Barcelona (new terminal) and Copenhagen do not require a second screening - arriving and departing passengers intermingle.

Surely they're fine once they are in sealed (and unopened) bags from the shop in Dublin Airport?

They shouldn't if it's in a completely sealed bag from duty free.

What about eg. a bottle of Whiskey/Alcohol bought in Duty Free, (with the Duty paid as its an internal EU flight)? I have never been in Frankfurt before myself or transited in Germany.

You haven't answered the question that I posed - it was deliberately quite specific.

Was the alcohol in a completely sealed see through bag, rather than a normal plastic bag?

You need to ask for it in Dublin if you are transiting other airports - once the duty free shop provides a completely sealed bag with the receipt attached to it you should be fine.

Otherwise what's the point of having the shop at all?

That's the same for any airport - the only exceptions are items purchased in a completely sealed see-through bag with the receipt attached.

security at transfer the norm i found about the EU.. AND IF THE LIQUIDS IN A SEALED SECURITY BAG, THERES NEVER A PROBLEM

    The point is still correct.

If you purchase liquids post security in any airport, and then transit anywhere else, then you will have to dispose of it unless:

    1) It has been purchased in a sealed see though bag with the receipt attached; or
    2) The transit airport is one of those rare beasts that does not require you to go through security (as at Copenhagen and Barcelona).

This applies to all airports and is not a Dublin specific issue.

And it's worth reminding people that the US don't respect the EU sealed-bag-with-receipt manoeuvre and they'll make you dump liquids if you need to transit in the US.

This only affects pre-cleared passengers from Ireland if they are transiting at a badly designed airport like Boston (and in some cases Chicago or JFK) where they might need to change terminal and there's no airside connection provided. It will rarely be a problem when connecting between flights on the same airline.

True. Most of my recent US connections have been in Chicago where I've had to change terminal every time.

This applies to all airports and is not a Dublin specific issue.

But it may not apply if the goods were purchased outside the EU. In Copenhagen all transiting passengers from flights from outside the EU are subject to a security scan and the 100ml limit is strictly enforces.

    From SAS web site:
    Baggage after shopping
If you are arriving at Copenhagen Airport from a country outside of the EU and are travelling onward, you must pass through security control. Please be aware that the same restrictions on liquids apply for the second departure from the airport.

Passengers who are in transit at the airport cannot bring bottles of liquor or perfume over 100 ml/3.38 oz. The total number of containers per passager must be able to fit in a plastic bag with a volume of 1 liter unless if the goods are sealed in the store and not opened before arrival at the destination.
Bottles of alcohol will be confiscated even if in sealed bags.
