    Howard

    Coleman Mertesacker Jagielka Evra

    Ozil Cabaye Ramsey Hazard

    Suarez Aguero

3 Everton players at the back including the goalkeeper might be a bit excessive but they've been the best for me and have kept the most clean sheets. Given United's start Evra is being underrated, but he's been much better than the consensus pick Shaw at the left back position.

I've been more impressed with Cabaye than Toure this season, alongside Suarez he's probably the most valuable player in the league in terms of the difference to the team when he's playing and not playing, and feel I had to get some sort of Newcastle representation into the side given how good they have been.

Ozil and Hazard have 10 goals and 15 assists between them, and while I know Ozil is not really a winger I'd find it hard to justify anyone else going into that position, while Suarez and Aguero go without saying.

Unlucky to miss out and certainly squad players in any team of the season so far this year that I would pick are; Jääskeläinen, Terry, Lovren, Lallana, Oscar, Barry and Rooney.

GK-Mignolet- has pulled of vital saves when needed

RB-Coleman- Very good in defence and attack with 4 goals
CB- Koscielny- very good man maker . Vital to arsenal defence
CB-Lovren- Major reason Southampton defence has been so efficient. Really missed against spurs yesterday
LB-Shaw- what a talent for 18 .great at one on ones. Strong and quick

RM- Ramsey-Great all round midfielder. Passing and goals but also tackling and winning the ball back
CM- Cabaye- Vital to Newcastle . A real leader for Newcastle
CM- Toure- Great moments of individual brillance for city. Can go missing at times. Not great stamina
LM- Ozil- Great decision making in the final third has taken arsenal to a different despite being inconsistent at times

ST- Suarez- Best player in the PL so far
ST-Aguero- Great season.will be a big loss to City in the next few weeks

    CM: Ramsey
    CM: Cabaye
    CM: Toure

    ST: Aguero

I found it hard to not to put Hazard in but the phrase mercurial was invented for players like him. But when he's good he's scarily good.

You surely can't seriously think Barry has been better than Toure or Cabaye this season?

    And no Aguero?

I was trying to fit them into a system of 4-2-3-1

I wouldnt be to inclined to play another attacking CM if I had Ramsey so Barry sits and plays the defensive role, Cabaye could arguably do a similar job but Barry is better suited to it IMO, not discounting how well Toure or Cabaye have played.

And as for Aguero, with suarez on fire theres just no place for him unless there was 2 CF's and if that was the case I'd take out Lallana.

Fair enough but I personally think everyone should be making room for both Aguero and Suarez in their sides.

I'd also say Ramsey+Toure/Cabaye would be a far better CM than one with Barry in it, both defensively and offensively.

No, everybody is perfectly entitled to select whoever they want.

There's nothing stopping me or anybody else questioning/debating/being gobsmacked at certain selections or omissions though, it'd be a pretty boring thread otherwise IMO.

The number of Mignolet picks is rather disturbing, given his almost allergic to back passes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

Even as an Arsenal fan I am shocked that Ozil is in practically every team here, wouldn't be in mine tbh, far too inconsistent as of yet.

Krul, Howard and Boruc have all been better than Mignolet IMO and whilst he probably wouldn't be in my first 11 either Flamini is a better version of Barry or Cabaye for me.

Cabaye and Flamini are completely different types of players, surely? Flamini is far more defensively minded and has a total of 17 goals in his career. Cabaye almost has that amount in two and a half seasons at Newcastle (plus 15 assists).

Other than the fact that he's been outperformed by Howard, Krul and Mignolet, absolutely nothing. Other than that he's the best.

    Krul,
    Coleman, Mertesacker, Lovren, Zabaleta;
    Özil, Toure(not Kolo, or is it....), Ramsay, Hazard;
    Suarez, Aguero.

Tried to pick as few Liverpool players as possible to avoid bias debate. No left back stands out so I switched Zabaleta to LB. Found that quite hard to do.

Yeah, apologies I can see where the confusion stemed from, I meant a better version of Barry - and was adding on as an afterthought that I would have in my team ahead of Cabaye aswell.

Don't think there's been a stand-out keeper so far this season. You could make a decent case for about 4 or 5 of them.

    Coleman-Mertesacker-Lovren-Gibbs
    Lallana-Ramsey-Toure-Hazard
    Suarez-Aguero

    Howard
    Coleman
    Mertesacker---Lovren
    Shaw
    Toure
    Ramsey
    Ozil
    Hazard
    Aguero----Suarez

Howard just pips De Gea IMO. not much in it. a mention for Marshall at Cardiff too.

Coleman ever so slightly gets in ahead of Zabaleta on form. Zabaleta is probably a more complete player, but purely based on the season so far, it's just Coleman. they've both been outstanding though.

Mertesacker is putting all those "too slow" jibes to shame IMO. he holds that defence together, is vocal, is a leader, and the defence is not at all the same without him.

many Liverpool fans wanted Lovren to be bought in the summer. it's Southampton's gain though. a rock tbh. honourable mentions at CB to Koscielny, Jagielka and Caulker.

    Ramsey is a standout, obviously.

Toure's presence and quality is also back after a subdued year last year. Fernandinho being beside him has helped no end too IMO. honourable mentions to Barry, Cabaye, Medel and Fernandinho for a CM slot.

the wing play hasn't been particularly inspiring this year. Hazard is playing in spurts. Ozil (i know he's not really a winger) has end product but hasn't actually been that great at all in general. good, but not really standout. they tie up the wing positions for me though.

Suarez and Aguero have to pick themselves really. Suarez is the best player in the league after his December excursions, and Aguero, if he could stay fit, would easily score 30-35 goals in a season. Rooney, in most other seasons, would command a spot. as would Lukaku. as would Sturridge. not this season.
