It's time to change my bottom bracket... I have a Tiagra BB on at the moment. Is there any point in spending more money for an Ultegra BB, in terms of better performance, durability, etc? or is it a tenner badly spent (everything else will be still Tiagra).
    Thanks

My bike came with a tiagra hollowtech 2. Changed after 2k km to same product, and has since done 13k km trouble free.

The higher grade products are lighter, dont know if seals/bearings are any better.

Going to change my now anyhow as if on a ling time they can be difficult to remove

I stil think it's only ok.

Use a little grease on seat post clamp area to limit water ingress.
Take your time with fitting and use good grease

I've gone through sora and tiagra hollow tech bb's pretty quick - I'm guessing 5,000 km on each which is not bad. Have recently fitted an ultegra one my commuter - it looks a bit better built and I'm reading the bearings are better quality. It's only a extra fiver or so from the tiagra if you can pick it up reduced from CRC. Will be interesting to see how it fairs out.

The hope bb's are expensive but the bearings are replaceable including ceramic which are more expensive but seem to last longer. Might consider these as an alternative when it comes to changing.

I know it's not Shimano........but a nice alternative to the big name BB's, from, probably, the worlds leading ball bearing manufacturer, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKF
    SKF, available from, http://www.compasscycle.com/bb_SKFBAS_jis.html

....think I'll give one of these brackets a go this year.
    Great reviews.
