Just looking for some advice here,
the next door neighbour has built a single storey extension at the back of their house.(attached to the house). They installed a wood burning stove with a flue at the back of this extension. The flue is about 1 foot tall. This is now churning out black and occasionally white smoke which is blowing into my house and garden. We have been unable to open the windows at the back of the house. I have told them I concerned for the health of my family but this has fallen on deaf ears. Any suggestions?

would redirecting and increasing the height of the flue correct the problem?

Invite them in when it is operating and have the windows open. Let them see what impact it is having. Surely, then they would do something to correct the issue.

Thanks for the reply micar. I will try this but not sure if they will cooperate.

If you have a good relationship then you wouldn't have a problem.

Did they ever consult when the extension was going on and with what they were planning to do?

The above is Part J of the Tech Guidance Docs. Regardless of whether the works required Planning or not they must adhere to these guidelines at a minimum. If they have and it is built to at least the min dims shown in Diag.1 there is basically feck all you can do. If not then you have a case imo.

We did have a good relationship but they never consulted us about the extension which did not require planning. I believe that they should have shown us the plans as a matter of courtesy even.

Thanks for the info. The flue height appears to be a breach. I don't know if raising the height of the flue will sort the problem(someone on boards has suggested this already) but it might be worth asking him to do this. My concern is the smoke coming from this flue is blowing into my garden and home.
