Have Sky Multiroom (5 boxes), need another box, but there are no more inputs on dish?

Okay, so I got Sky Multiroom in around October 06, and at that time the Satellite we had only had 5 inputs on the dish to connect wire to in order to actually get signal to the boxes, so the guy fitting it in said we could only get 5 boxes. The thing is now we need Sky in another room, so what are the options do so? Will I need to get one of those third party multi room gadgets that connects one box to another TV or whatever? Is it possible for Sky to remove the current dish, and replace it with another dish with more inputs? I was told I'd have to get another dish, which I do not want.

If I do need to get that multi room gadget, is it easy enough to set up? There is one box that is hardly ever used, so I could connect it to that, but then the room where I would want the signal to go is the furthest possible distance from that box.

    Any ideas?

How big is your house to need Sky in 6 different rooms?

Any four bedroom house could conceivably come up against this problem.

You can get multiway switches, they need a quattro LNB

    I don't know if they do Hi-def -

    quattro lnb:

Thanks for this. Any instructions around for what to do with it? I assume that I'd need to ring Sky up to get them to add another room onto my package or something? Complete newbie here.

If your paying sky for an extra multi-room then i'd imagine sky would cover the cost of the new lnb.

Multiswitches can be expanded to up to 4 satellites and over 1000 receivers from one dish.

They don't care if HD, Ka, Ku or whatever. Most need Quattro LNBs but some will work with a Quad or 4 ports on an Octo. A simple Multswitch has four LNB inputs for ONE satellite and 16 outlets.

It's dubious if you need more than 2 or 3 sky boxes unless you are a guest house. The additional boxes for an ordinary home could all be Freesat HD. Though makes no difference to LNBs or Multiswitches, except if you have more than one satellite position the 1st should 28.2E so the Sky Boxes work.

Dubious? How so? It's a family house, teenagers want Sky movies and sports in their own rooms. Downstairs we have one in the main living room, kitchen/dining room and another "media room". Not dubious at all really.

I rang Sky up and they told me the only option was to install another dish, which I do not want, but are there no updated dishes they could replace the current one with that will have more than 5 inputs?

I assume you have an Octo (8 output) LNB on your dish at the moment?
What combination of Sky+ and basic Sky boxes do you have?
How many feeds do you require including the new box?

If you require more 8 feeds a multiswitch is the way to go as the lads say above but Sky won't provide this hence their suggestion to install another dish. The multiswitch can be a little more expensive than a second Sky dish.

The type of multiswitch will depend on how many feeds you require in total including current and future planned feeds, up to 12 or 16 e.g. http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/multiswitch.htm, http://www.tvtrade.ie/amplifiers-and-diplexers/multiswitches.html.

Another consideration is if you plan to use the existing LNB in conjunction with a multiswitch then a quad compatible multiswitch will be required. If you purchase a non-quad compatible multiswitch then a new Quattro LNB will be required with the new multiswitch.

As far as I know, Sky don't do multi switch systems themselves, but they are not a problem as such, though to be sure of a reasonable quality, the next size up dish is preferred. The LNB has 4 wires to the box in the roof or where ever, and then the number of outputs is dependent on the size of the multi switch unit, which can be 8, 12 or 16 on the ones I have seen,

I have on here that I put in myself, and it's never given me any hassle. Saorview can also be put into the system, and then split out at the receiver location using the correct wall plate. Signal quality is fine, and the box set up is absolutely standard, works with Sky boxes and Free to air boxes, and the Saorview side of things works fine as well.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

So it *IS* a guest house :D
