Hmm, so that would explain the new stop they've built on the little link road between the roundabout at the Woodies retail park on the Southern Cross and Killarney Road then?

Not going along the Herbert Road past the studios is a bit of a bummer for me though .. probably an additional 10 minute walk to the nearest bus stop :(

I am surprised I never see anyone using a fold up bike as you can bring them on the bus and use at either end of your commute.

It will speed up the 145 because it is a terrible long route and what happens is they get held up at all the junctions such as Kilbride lane and so on in turn all the b uses bunch up and thats why 2 or 3 or sometimes more are together at around UCD/Donnybrook or bray going out.

Fold up bike? Take the DART.

Dart doesn't go everywhere like a bus.
I am a driver and just thinking never see anyone with fold ups.

Funny in the last 2 weeks I've had 3 trying to bring bikes on and never had it before.

Buses don't go everywhere either; they operate on fixed routes. Taxis can, but you have to pay more for them.

(Of course, actual railway expansion seems to be out of the question.)

You know what I meant as in its not on a fixed line. Yes a route but they are spaced out quite well from my point of view.

Is this announced on DB site?

    Can't find it

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    No.

Any decision will require NTA sanction and will be announced appropriately.

Well, since the 45 is gone, the 45A perhaps ought to be re-numbered. I noticed that "146" is currently disused, unless perhaps DB wants to re-number the 46A as the 146 in the future. (Maybe the 39A should be the 139?)

Maybe just renumber the 145 as the 45, also renumber the 46A as the 46 and the 39A as the 10.

Interesting complication that the route 45A is among those 'local' routes being proposed for privatisation while route 145 is a high frequency trunk route and presumably one of DB's best revenue generators. I wonder is the travelling public's interest to the fore here?

Post-privatisation, would DB be even able to propose such a change or would it have to be initiated from within the NTA?

Once again - what is being proposed is not privatisation - it is route tendering. Dublin Bus are free to tender to operate the routes.

As for this specific proposal, any changes have to be approved by the NTA before they can come into operation. That is the safeguard in terms of the travelling public's interest.

    Indeed.

Can't see the travelling public in Bray or Kilmacanogue being pleased with these changes at all.

Does Kilmacanogue need a 10 minute service? Probably not.

Maybe not but this would be cutting off direct buses into Dublin City Centre for kilmac.

No it isn't - Bus Eireann route 133 still serves the stop.

Yes, it's tendering route operation. I just used 'privatisation' as short hand. It is a form of privatisation.

My point is that the transfer of planning, route design, strategy, etc to the NTA from the CIE companies and transforming them into mere operators seems to be happening in a very awkward manner. If routes are now to be put up for tender, then it's a clear conflict of interest for DB, as the incumbent and a potential bidder, to be proposing changes to one of the routes involved at the same time.

That said, it's fairly small scale interference compared to Irish Rail's solo run proposals to reopen Broadstone and the airport DART spur in recent years.
