Problems with eircom

So the last few months we had been experiencing big problems with our broadband service from eircom. We were getting speeds of less than 1MB when we should have been getting 3MB(we live in the country). Anyways I finally decided to ring them on friday, after carrying out a test online and it said "you could be enjoying speeds of up to 24MB". Anyways so I rang the number and they originally said we weren't in a next generation broadband area, but after I complained about the speed he checked something and discovered we were in an area, but our line had never been upgraded. He then said that he was going to upgrade the line and we would get unlimited broadband up to 24MB from the next day on. The second I got off the phone I discovered the broadband was completely broken, and it was saying "DSL down", i thought maybe it was just until the next day. Anyways, I rang today and only to hear that our router was not able to support the speed and a new router would have to be sent, and it would not get to us by at least the 30th of december. Is this not a complete joke? Surely the guy who upgraded us should have checked if our router could support it, or at least if we could get the router sooner

I get the feeling you will be disappointed by the number between 1 and 24 that you get.
    What router have you?

I had problems for a long time with eircom. The last engineer that called out to fix our line was honest and told me to go buy a decent router instead of using the crap eircom ones and that would solve the problem.I did exactly that and had constant download speed of 11 mb for about a year , download Speed started to drop so I bought a new router and downloads seed was back up again to 11mb.

The guy you spoke to was in sales. Salespeople arent known for their technical prowess.

If your line is actually a 3Mb line then they've f'cked everything and will have to downgrade you.
