Generation War - outstanding mini series.

That's about it really unless I start listing 'enjoyable' fare that I enjoy rather than think is outstanding.

For current shows has to be Breaking Bad and House of Cards, started Homeland too. But did watch The Wire, The Sopranos and 24 for the first time this year which are all masterpieces and the sopranos being the best thing i have ever watched.

I'd have said the opposite of Homeland....first series was great, second was okay but third was bad, with maybe the exception of the last few episodes.

    Blacklist and breaking bad

I hate list threads, so here is a little context.
Breaking Bad, my number two this year. A very obvious and unsurprising choice.

I tend to like darker shows, I like murders, serial killers and the like in my entertainment. However I never liked The Silence of the Lambs movie or their sequels. I much preferred the earlier Manhunter movie. So I'm very suprised that the best thing I saw all year was Hannibal, great story, great acting, and it's beautifully shot. Hard to believe that this is network show, and harder to believe that it's getting a second season. Long may to continue.

I was also suprised by Scandal, it's like Dallas meets the West Wing.

Other good shows, Game Of Thrones, Ray Donovan, Sherlock, The Tunnel, The Returned & Blacklist

Disappointments this year, Agents of Shield, Love/Hate & Homeland. But the winner is Dexter, I don't think a show has ever had such a misjudged ending. The writers clearly had no understanding why the majority of people watched the show.

Two things I'm most looking forward too, aside from Hannibal, Peter Capaldi as Dr Who and HBO's True Detective.

    Borgen and Breaking Bad.

    Game of Thrones obviously.

Breaking Bad (I binged seasons 2-5 shortly after the show finished).

The Americans is a very good show though I've not finished the first season yet.

I watched Nashville because of Hayden Panettiere being hot and was surprised how much I enjoyed the show.

I really enjoyed Dexter but the finale was absolutely awful.

I also enjoyed Love/Hate this season and think the online criticism it has gotten is very unfair.

Haven't finished Homeland yet and have all of the Walking Dead on sky plus.

Totally agree on Masters of Sex, thought it was fantastic.

Really enjoyed Toast of London on Channel 4.

Thought Masters of Sex more style than substance, its depths were quite shallow really.

Toast of London was great fun

    Breaking Bad
Peerless right to the end. I know some people were a bit disappointed by the finale but I thought it was incredible and the perfect ending to the best show.

    Bobs Burgers and Archer
Two animated show with their central character voiced by the same actor. Of the two Archer was the stronger, some of the episodes in season 4 were as good as any in the previous seasons. But I felt Bobs Burgers lost it’s way slightly in season 3 – they moved away from the simpler restaurant based stories to more outrageous plots that didn’t really work for me. Both are still unmissable

    Toast
Matt Berry, gentle surrealism, Clem Fandango – loved it. Delighted it got a second season.

    Girls
Suffered from second season syndrome and at times it seemed to lose a little of the confidence it had in season one. At times it struggled to give its characters stories worthy of them. Season 3 is make or break.

    American Horror Story
Aliens, monsters, Anne Frank - a glorious mess that somehow held it together with some excellent central performances.

    Love/Hate
Unmissable. And despite a Deus Ex Machina I can’t wait for next year.

There were a bunch of shows I started that didn’t hold my attention or ran out of energy; Hannibal, Ray Donovan, Banshee, Almost Human.

Rectify is certainly the best new TV series that started this year which I've watched.

Breaking Bad and The Wire (finally got around to watching it), where had you been all my life.

Totally forgot that Fringe was a 2013 ending too, gutted that it was canned (and that the budget had been ripped apart)

Orphan Black, Top of the Lake, House of Cards & Rectify were series I really enjoyed.

Then there is an endless list if primetime US series I have enjoyed as well.

RTE also needs credit for Love/Hate which has been a stand out series as well.

I think looking back my favourite was Girls, I know a lot of people didn't love it but I think the writing is great and the direction they're willing to go with it make me feel like it won't go stale like I thought it would.

Breaking Bad for obvious reasons even though I feel like the writers kinda gave into the hero worship of Walt. Still exceptional television.

Game of Thrones was brilliant, the third book was my favourite so expectations were high and I was not disappointed and the show has got a lot right and the changes don't irk me at all.

Orange is the New Black was fun and had more substance to it than I thought. House of Cards was mostly great and the second season should improve on a good premise.

Mad Men was a little disappointing but I'll be back.

Shows I've ditched this year are Agents of SHIELD, Homeland and the Walking Dead.
