    Because it won't earn interest

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 445 ✭✭rwg

Then move it to a high interest account and pay the fees from that

You will currently pay more in fees than you could possibly make in interest on €2500 anywhere.

Held to ransom? Just switch to a fee free account and never use the fee paying bank again - simples - did it last week - I am bailing these institutions out I certainly won't be paying them a fee for the privilege

Umm, banking is a service. Services cost money. Fees are the form that service uses to apply a charge to you. If you use their service, you pay their fees. Otherwise, buy a mattress.. or find a service provider that doesn't charge..but good luck with that.

Do you know fuçk all about banking??

Clearly not so I'd say stay out of the conversation; banks make their money primarily by lending your money; this fee charging scheme is just another revenue generation ploy for the cûnts

Yeah just like being charged for internet banking doing it yourself ... Infra structure is well paid for by this stage .. yet they still charge you oh and 20c for using the debit card and so on and so on.... not using our atm hey that costs more...

I can accept paying a small fee to maintain my account but they're just price gouging now at this stage.

I emigrated. When I was going a lady at Bank of Ireland sat me down to advise me on the best way to manage my money going there. She told me to most of my money onto my credit card and use that when I got over there as it would be commission free. So, I was advised to keep the account open.

When I got over, despite me telling her I was moving and calling them up and making sure they knew to not lock my card. My card got locked 4 times. Due to the time difference I couldn't call them. My mother went to our local bank to try and help and they gave her crap, that I should have closed out my account if I was leaving.

So, When I went back for a visit, I went to close my account. I had paid my fees on the account, I had left money in it to cover the cost. So I got in line, went up to the window and said I'd like to close my account...she told me I had to go to the desk. So I went over to the desk. The lady got some forms and advised me that in order to close out the account I would have to pay banking fees and stamp duty for my credit card for the year. Hadn't used the account or card in over a year and a half. So then she tells me I'll need to go over to the Online Banking desk...which didn't have a computer, it had a phone. She pressed a button and told me to wait for someone to answer and ask them what the closing balance is...

So I'm told I have to pay 70 euro! So I go back to the lady with the amount and get my cash out. She say's oh no, I can't handle cash here you have to go back to the counter...

To close my account I waited in line twice for about 40 minutes each time. Had to call a help desk number and pay "Leaving the country" tax....they are scum

Scum they may be but you, as an economic unit of production, should respect your overlords!

It is displeasing that the wage-slaves should create such a rabble about paying as much as the market can bear. It is as if they don't understand capitalism!

Im at war with ulster bank at the moment had an issue on Weds night where i tried to book a car rental online the website of the company gave and error and was unable to proceed. They charged my card 170 euro 3 times. The car rental company reversed the transaction and even faxed their bank to get it all cleared up. They also offered to fax ulster bank but the people who work in the ulster bank call center refused to help. Im down a lot of money and ulster bank are just saying it can take up to 10 days to clear off. Who wants to wait 10 days over xmas and im flying to my other halfs family in the states on Monday which makes the matter worse. Banks have no heart.

Good....good, your anger gives me straight, soon your journey to the dark side will be complete :P

On the other hand, I just switched from AIB to PTSB. Was with AIB since I made my confirmation a long, long, long ago. Got sick of the fees, so I switched.

I'd say I give two what you say, genius boy. The bit in bold is rubbish, btw. Banks make feck all lending your money as you don't have enough to dent the amount they need. They borrow on the interbank markets and from central banks and lend that out. Retail customers, like the OP, are a PITA for the banks. If every retail customer shut their accounts in the morning not two flyings would the banks give. Fees are a way of getting people to actually contribute to the bottom line as opposed to being a drain on staffing.

You don't have to use that bank, or any bank for that matter, you know. They are providing a service...if you don't like it then don't use it. Just like all other service providers.

Another person who has no idea about banking,

Basically you are saying "here bank, take my money, and my wages every month, and lend it to bell ends who wont be able to pay it back; and while youre at it, allow me to pay you for doing so"

Idiots in this thread are idiots

It is quite apparent to me, as a person who briefly worked in banking (investment, not commercial), that you don't know what a bank is.

Starting a thread and then insulting people who disagree with you is a sure sign that the thread is going nowhere.
